Kitty Fight or Kitty Play?

I posted a while ago about introducing a new cat into my single cat family.

They were fine for a while... Chasing each other and playing...
But I'm not sure about this new behaviour.

Nicky, my older male cat and Meow Meow, the younger male cat still chase each other, but now they attack each other and roll around on the floor, biting at each other's throats.

This doesn't seem like play to me.

What do I do????

Are they hissing and spitting?

Cause my two like to play fight all the time!!

I wouldn't worry too much unless either cat is being hurt.

I have the same problem. However my older cat, Tiger, that we adopted was declawed, and the little one, Kloe still has claws. But I have sat back and observed to find that Kloe starts the fight by attacking, and usually Tiger just lays there and rolls around for awhile until she gets too rough(or he gets bored and wants to go back to sleep) then he bites her. Which usually ends with her hissing and meowing very loudly like she is in pain. Then the fight is over and she just lays down with him. Sounds like your two are just playing like mine. Since they get along the rest of the time I wouldn't worry.

If they keep going back to each other and it doesn't look like one is cowering in the corner while the other attakcs, it is probably fine. My cats play fight like that all the time and almost everything where is a hiss or growl or yelp sound. Sometimes they get a little rough for each other and they have to let each other know somehow. As long as there is no blood being drawn and they do this for awhile and then back off and do something else and then come back to rough play, that is probably all it is.

Funny that you posted this because I was just coming on line to ask the same thing. My 3 yr old and new 6 month old do the same exact thing. So I can't give an advice on if it's normal, but know that it's not uncommon if that counts for anything! I just hope my 3 yr old doesn't come up to me when I come home for the day with the little kitten dragging in her mouth!

I appreciate all the feedback you've all given me!
I've been really worried, as I am going away for a week... I wasn't sure if I should take the small cat to my mum's to hangout there or not...

I'll be having someone check on the kitties daily, obviously, so I suppose they'll be all right...

It's just that they didn't do this in the first week of getting to know each other.
I guess they're comfortable with each other now?

Thanks again!

Again, same here. My 3 yr old stayed away from the new kitty for the first week and now they run all over playing hide and seek until it devolves into a fluffy wrestling match.

I think your guess is right - maybe now they're ready to play with each other!
