We adopted a 3 year old male cat (neutered) several weeks ago, Ike. Laid back, friendly guy, fairly talkative. After extensive observation with other cats at the rescue site, we thought he would get along with our two female cats, or at least it would not be hard. We were wrong. Upon seeing either one of our 2 other cats, he gets agitated and wants to attack. He actually starts snorting, and is absolutely fearless towards approaching either one of them, including our oldest cat Jinx, who is quite aggressive herself and cantankerous.

So far, we've only had one incident where he has chased our other cat, Sasha upstairs and under the bed, where I was able to get him before it escalated. Currently he stays in our garage and laundry room during the day and we let him out at night while putting the other cats in a different room.

HELP! We're kind of at a loss as to what to do, because even with increased interaction with him on a leash and harness it has not gotten better. The odd part is he is so friendly and laid back otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

Probably at work :(
I just moved into my boyfriend's apartment in October. He has a 2 1/2 y.o. female and I have a 5 1/2 y.o. male. It was what I thought would be the ruin of our lives for a while.
The vet told suggested to keep them in separate rooms and introduce them slowly. In my reality, HA! HA!
Not gonna happen. We both have full time jobs so, we relish the sleep we get.
I did invest in a plug-in called FeliWay--its supposed to produce a calming hormone for both cats. To my surprise it was well worth the money. One plug-in did our studio apartment just fine. The product is a little expensive, but when it comes to peace of mind (and body), it was worth it.
The only other downside I found was that it kinda smelled like something burnt if you were close to it.
May be worth a shot for you...
Hope I was of some assistance.

Yes, he is neutered. I'm trying treats and food by the door where the other cats are kept when he is in the house. I haven't noticed progress yet.
