Garden warning to my US TCS friends

My sis just emailed my an article from the Richmond VA garden club about using shredded bark/woodchip mulch this year.
With all the destruction of trees in the New orleans area the market will be flooded with cheap mulch. However there is a exotic pest the Formosan subterrean termite that has established itself in New Orleans and will be unknowingly transported in this mulch. Us gardeners in the northern latitudes my be a little more safe due to the insect life cycle and our colder weather.
If you are buying any of this type of mulch please find out where the product originated from. If anyone would like the article please pm me and I will email it to you!!

I think I am going to skip mulch this year. I don't know what I am going to use!!

It was just on the local news here this evening stating that this is a hoax email being sent via email. That is absolutley not true.

Yes, a local extension agent talked about that a couple of days ago and said it isn't true.

I'm not crazy. I thought I just read last week that it was a false email.

Thank goodness. We have ENOUGH introduced species (read: pests) without adding yet another one to the mix.
