For those in non-commonwealth countries, the commonwealth games are similar to the olympic games although only commonwealth countries participate. Like the olympic games, the games occur every 4 years.

The XVIII Commonwealth Games will be held in Melbourne from 15 to 26 March 2006. The Games will run for 12 days, with 72 countries and 4,500 athletes taking part in 16 sports.

For those in the commonwealth countries, please watch the coverage as its in Melbourne
I have no doubt they will show lots of this wonderful city that I am so proud of

We have tickets to go see quite a few events, and I can not wait until it all starts - I am so proud that these games will be held in this city

LET THE GAMES BEGIN

I did have to laugh when I found out that the Commonweath Games were to be held in Melbourne next as they were held in manchester last time!

I will certainly be trying to catch a couple of events on the TV though!

I am looking forward to the games,i think they're great,its good for a lot of smaller countries who dont qualify to compete in the olympics.

I met afew athletes when the 17th games were held in manchester and
the whole atmosphere was great.

Its just a shame i can't go to melbourne

To be honest, I'm sick of it already. It's becoming near on impossible to get around in the city and on public transport, and as someone who works in the city, if it's this bad now already, in a week, its gunna be hell!

One great thing about when the Commonweath games were in Manchester though! I was going to physio and everytime I phoned a taxi I would get one of the best ones, as they thought I was one of the athletes!

The area does get very busy though! I was living and working just around the corner from where the officials were living!!
(Did feel kind of sorry for them, as they were put up in some old-ish Student Halls!
)

You should have seen the halls BEFORE the athletes saw it.
