Hello Everyone,

I'm so worried about my cat hyde, here's the story, a couple weeks ago hyde got an owie on his neck, a patch of his skin was skinned raw i believe from the collar he was wearing, i put antibiotics on it and wrapped it up with bandages. well it was like 95% healed when he started to scratch it again and when i came home from work he had three more bloody skinned raw patched. and thats wear i stand. I can't bring him to the vet for another few days but it really bothers me to see him scratch till be bleeds, i put bandages on him and antibiotics but it doesn't seem to help. any suggestions??? i don't think he can have any sort of worm because he's an indoor cat... however i did adopt another cat in august which lived outside for two weeks... anyone have ideas whats going on or what i can do to help hyde??

Hyde could have a number of things - fleas, allergies to food or any number of things. What kind of antibiotics are you using? Human ones? If he has fleas he'll probably also have tapeworm from ingesting the fleas.

You really need to get a vet to check him out so I don't think there is much you can do until you get into the vet in a couple days.

Hi and welcome to TCS. I am sorry your little guy is having such a difficult time! But, it really is best to get him into the vet as quickly as you can. If he has fleas, the vet can give you a spot-on flea treatment for him. (Please do not use "over-the-counter" type flea preventatives. Some have been linked to serious health problems in cats.)

It may also be ringworm, which isn't actually a worm, it is a fungal infection. The vet can look at him under a special light they use to find the fungus. If it is ringworm, there are a lot of different options - you might try doing a search on "ringworm" and "skin conditions" and see what you can come up with:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/search.php

There are also certain kinds of mites that live on the surface of a cat's skin, deep under the fur where the human eye can't see them. A skin scraping might also be an option to mention to the vet if all else appears to be normal.

Best of luck,

~gf~

It could be fleas. Some cats are much mroe sensitive to them than others. My cat has a severe allergic reaction to them. Only your vet will be able to tell you for sure what is wrong. Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

Why don't you get one of those E colars for him? THEN he won't be able to scratch or make it worse till the Vet can treat him!
