Is this normal for me to get frustrated with having 12 cats in the house. Some days I love all of them, and some days I want to just get rid of half of them. Some of them are hard to break their bad habits, and others you don't even know they are around they are perfect angels. I feel like I have extra kids around the house, they're not happy unless they are making a disaster out of something.

How do those of you that have several cats deal with having that many terrorize your home?

I wouldn't say I get frustrated, matter of fact, I'd get really bored & lonely if I didn't have every cat and my one dog in my house.

I do get overwhelmed from time to time but it's just a wee-little bit. Like, coming home from work after running the sweeper just that morning & fiinding big tufts of fur all over the place from Hammie & Snickers playing. Coming home to find a turd in the middle of the kitchen floor because Zorro took off running before he was finished.

But I don't want a boring house or a house with no pets, so the more the merrier really!

What kind of terrorizing do your cats do? Are they all kittens - still in that playful, chew & destroy everything stage? Mine are mostly older, docile; except for Hammie who is constantly nuts.

Do you have any help, from housemates, boyfriend, kids, etc.? I get help when I ask for it, setting out plates & cleaning up fur & stuff. It helps!

Some of us get frustrated and we have only one or two cats! Yes, I think it's normal. You wouldn't have them there in the first place if you didn't want them around. Just try and think of the nice times...

It's definatly normal and we only have 4!!! Like you said some days you love them to death and some days you want to pull your hair out and ask why we have so many! But at the end of the day I know I could not live without my darling babies. I think I would honestly miss having to fix my picture frames being knocked over, or cleaning up water on the floor from when they spill it
I just think of the good times I have with them!

It would be boring, I agree, without them. Some of them are still kittens, in fact seven of them are kittens. They do things like:

- shred the toilet paper
- jump in the bathtub full of water and they get water everywhere
- get into the dog bones and either eat them or play with them
- climb the curtains
- jump on everything they are not supposed to
- shred any paper they find (schoolpapers, napkins, etc.)
- play with coins laying on the table
- steal my pens from my desk
- knock things off of where they're not supposed to be

The list goes on...

It's crazy that cats love a roll of toilet paper so much that they shred it, and they actually don't mind water, well one of them doesn't mind water, he is obsessed with watching us take showers then jumps in the bathtub when we're done.

I would suggest putting the toilet paper in the vanity cabinet (if you have one) but Ari has been opening ours and getting the toilet paper out.

I've forgotten how many times I have threatened to turn him into a white fur purse with a 14 inch strap...

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
Ha! I'm having the toilet paper problem too! Nismo is just doing it everyday! its a new thing though, just from the weekend. It is funny but now everytime I sit on the loo I spend 10 minutes rolling the paper back up...
Apart from this the only time I get frustrated is when they won't let us sleep and I can't cope without my sleep. I know I know...close the bedroom door at night.

I admit from time to time I do get frustrated.

For example Beauty likes to lay down with her butt against something, like a pillow. She getting better, but doesn't always clean her you-know-what and when she's determined to lay next to you and put her butt up against you, it's just gross.

Then the other day I had a moment where I just want to check email and Luna kept prancing in front of my monitor. This took more time then I really wanted so I moved her. I must of did it more harshly then I thought since later on that night she was really skittish around me. We made up though with a good game of the fishing pole

Most of our cats came to us declawed, so we don't have much of an issue with curtains or furniture.

They are all adults though and they still tear through the house, break stuff, steal and shred toilet paper/paper towels.
Rush out the door when I answer, wake me at 4am, meow constantly for no apparent reason and always underfoot in the kitchen.

I do get frustrated on occasion, but I honestly would not be a very happy person without the 6 cats, big dog, loud parrots or my creepy tarantula.

One of my kitties does that too!

Yes, I get frustrated sometimes (4 underfoot, in-your-face cats + 2 follow-me-everywhere dogs), but usually all I have to do is stop, take a breath, pick one up and listen to him/her purr for a moment
and then it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal after all.

Have you considered finding new homes for some of the kittens? I think even Momma cats get sick of their own kittens, so maybe having so many different personalities is part of the problem. And of course, it is easier to find a home for a kitten than a cat, even though cats are generally much more well behaved!

If this is just temporary frustration, it will pass. But kitties can live 20 years. Are you sure you want to keep them all?!?

I recently has 11 cats, including lots of fosters. Since I am down to just my three, I am enjoying my time with them so much more! Festus and I spend more time together, and Gar is on my lap now, giving himself a bath! And I have even gotten Jasmine to be a little tamer, now that I can focus on her. I certainly don't know your situation...but it is ok to admit that 12 is too much, and give some up. I think of it as sharing the love, instead of keeping it all for yourself!
