What Defines You?

it isnt possible in my opinion to define ourselves, or be defined, but, what if you tried to put together a package of what is closest to your heart, what makes you, you.

....so many things, i cannot even think of what i would put in my package. here is what i have thought of so far;

-my writing/poetry
-a mixed c.d. of my most important and cherished songs
-my favourite book
-my favourite film
-a bottle of rain
-a photograph of me & my lost love
-poetry from e.e. cummings
-a pack of cigarettes
-prozac
-tea & coffee
-one of my diaries
-daises
-my favourite incense " Nag Champa "
-favourite piece of clothing
-photos of my cats
-a painting from my best-friend
-an old love letter/letter from a beloved friend
-photos of family & friends


another idea, i think we should all write letters to ourselves and bury them, and dig them up 5 years from the day we write them; how apparent the changes in our lives and souls would be, how apparent who we were then would be. like a message in a bottle, only for ourselves.

have any of you done anything like this before?


anyway, it will be interesting to see what you guys think.

What makes me, me? Hhmmmmm. Well, it's funny you mention burying a letter for 5 years. I have old poems, thoughts written in pads, etc., that I come across when going through boxes and I can see the changes in myself. I still the same guy I always was in many ways, but I have definantly matured and become kinder with age. Things that define me:

-movies
-my Jaws shrine (a 5 tier shelf of autographs and stuff)
-Letters and pictures of past loves
-pictures of times with friends
-catnip for humans (lol)
-my cats
-my writing (scripts/poetry/short stories)
-A knowing look w/ someone close & the memories of it
-Dr. Pepper
-A smoke after a good meal (or lovemaking.lol)
-A breathtaking laughter

What a good question!

Here is my box of buried treasure:

-- wedding photos
-- family photos (including pics of Fergus)
-- a list of my dreams (where will I be in 5 years?)
-- cookbooks and exercise videos (the eternal struggle)
-- love letters to & from John from Basic Training & AIT
-- a copy of my present favorite poem, "The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock" by T.S. Eliot
-- My degree diplomas

What defines me:

My cd would have Mama's & the Papa's, jim croce, dan folgelburg, and seals and crofts
inkpens and paintbrushes
cassette recordings of my husband and I first communications (we met through a personal ad on a dare!)
cat litter and horse manure
journals
butterflies and daisys
a bottle of Joy
Lady Stetson
walrus ivory, sheephorn and moose antler
a big towel soggy with my tears
and a flag that says "Survivor!"

You know this is a hard one. I am not sure any one thing or a combo defines me. I have always been somewhat simple but have love for most everything. I will give it a shot though.
