Fighting back against the hate protests at funerals

We have had many threads about these hatemongers posing as a religious group who protest soldiers' funerals. Finally, someone is organizing against them to protect the families of the soldiers whose funerals are being desecrated. And wouldn't you know it? It's bikers.

There are also more than a dozen states that have legislation proposed to restrict protesting at funerals.

It is very wrong IMO to protest at funerals. These families have given the ultimate sacrifice - a family member in the pursuit of peace. Even if you don't agree with the war or the process to achieve peace, you have to respect the grief these families are going through.

We had all of 4 of the protesters from that church but over a hundred of the bikers at a local funeral for a soldier. The bikers even participated in the procession to the cemetery.

The bikers were just here yesterday. Fortunately the protestors didn't show up to this funeral, but they were at the last one a couple months ago. They were calling the family though, saying they were glad their son died. It's so horrible. God bless those bikers.

Its not surprising that bikers (such as "Hell's Angels") are in support of soldiers.
This gang is surprisingly conservative and were originally founded by soldiers!
(See the movie by Orson Welles of the Air Platoon "Hell's Angels")

IMO:

These people need to get their heads out of the ground and smell their own farts for once.

It is (again IMO) ethically wrong to interrupt a family trying to bury their loved one. Especially since the last time they saw this person it was several months before and alive. My question to them: Would you like me to picket a loved ones funeral service claiming that America is being destroyed because of your opinions? I didn't think so.

I'm just going to group these with the same people that burned all the Harry Potter books in their town a couple of years ago.

Who the heck does this phelps and his cronies think they are, what right do they have to desecrate somebodys sacred right to a peaceful funeral,

What has being gay got to do with these soldiers funerals ?

This phelps is seriously mentally unstable imo,and should not be allowed to be near so many children with the influence he has over them.

Me being an (reluctant) ex biker myself, and gay (yes ive come out on the forum )i ADMIRE what they are doing to protect innocent people from the likes of phelps/hitler

"They blame homosexuals for the destruction of America". Duh? I can see being against the war in Iraq for political, economic, or social reasons (Do you have a "Sunni" or "Shia" name?), but this reasoning is simply beyond contempt.

This group of fanatics reminds me of a group of religeous fanatics in the Bible called the Pharasees. This group looked down their noses at anyone that did not believe what they believed. The Phelps group is preaching that God is a God of hate. God is a God of love. Jesus did not hang out with the Pharasees, he hung out with the common people, the tax collectors and whores.

God bless these bikers that are protecting a family's right for a peaceful goodbye to a family member. We have had 2 heroes die in as many weeks in Iraq. They are heroes IMO. Last year, when one of our men died and left a pregnant wife behind, the community got behind her and gave her a baby shower. People that didn't even know the family attended.

We need to get behind our men and women in uniform fighting for our freedom. And people like the Phelps cult ( I don't consider this a legit church) needs to take the log out of their own eyes before they try to take a speck out of someone else's eye.

And we won't think any different of you either!

Thats just shocking!. These people are an insult to the human race

West Virginia has banned protests at funerals because those wackos were at the Sago Mine funerals. It's pretty sad when you have to pass laws to prevent this from happening. Those people are sick and twisted and have no sence of human dignity.

NO ONE has the right to interupt a funeral.

This not only includes protestors but the press as well. I'm sick of seeing the media at funerals asking people how they feel!!! I mean, how do they THINK they feel??!!!!!

I hope Phelps and his lot rot in hell. And I hope NO ONE turns up to his funeral. Thats a greater insult.

That's one of the great things about TCS - you're just a cat lover here. Doesn't matter what color your skin is, or what god you pray to, or who you love (besides the cats ). We like you for being YOU!

Sexual preference just doesn't make a difference!

It is certainly 100% inappropriate to use what is already an infinitely difficult moment for these families as an opportunity to perpetuate your contrary political agenda.

If you want to peacefully protest, fine. Do it in front of the Capitol.

Ugh ... I had a feeling this was going to be about Fred Phelps. He's "famous" regionally. He gets press, true, but not a lot of followers; his "congregation" is mostly his familyÒ€”the ones who haven't escaped his clutches.

The sadness of this hurts, hurts that any family would have to go through this rot at a time of great sorrow and hurts so bad that someone can take and twist Gods word in such a way.

To the bikers thank you for keeping this man and his family away from the funerals.
There was a thread about this a few weeks ago. My s/o and I are members of this group, but fortunately have not had to attend a funeral yet. I hope we never have to, as much as I would like the opportunity to thwart these inconsiderate jerks in their efforts. They should have the same level of hell as people that abuse animals.

Protesting in someone's funeral is nasty. I'm strongly against the war in Iraq and pretty much every single thing the Bush administration does, but insulting a mourning family is just distasteful and wrong.
This Phelps family has the most convoluted thinking possible. How can they try to ruin a soldier's or anyone's funeral for such a stupid reason? I would hate to have to be protected by bikers at a loved one's funeral.

Well, Viva America and free speech! But I hope we rein in their "rights" soon.
