I'm wondering who else here does cross stitch? What are you working on?

I find that it's lots of fun to talk about it, but preferably with people that I already know. I've tried joining a couple of stitching forums, but they just can't compare with here.

I've just started a project as a gift for a beautiful baby girl, whose Mommy happens to post here at TCS.
So, unfortunately I can't post any pics until she receives it because it's supposed to be a surprise. But I'm really proud of myself because it's the first project that I designed (mostly) by myself on PC Stitch.
I finally just had to start it because I kept finding little things I wanted to change - like adding some Kreinik flosses to it.

And of course, I've got 4 WIPs (work in progress). They are big projects that at this point I don't know if I'll ever finish.

Love it, love it, love it!

Right now I'm working on a cross-stitch of Smudge, but I've got SEVERAL works in progress, one of which is the Marbek Nativity, which is enormous.

I think I have about 5 WIP's. I love to cross stitch I just never find the time anymore. When my children were younger nap time was a great time to cross stitch.

I have never tried to design my own with the software. I just don't have the creative mind.

PC Stitch? what a good idea! I'd loove to do some cross stitching but I can never find any patterns that I like.

I have a WIP that was supposed to be a Christmas gift for someone last year.

My last 2 projects were a wedding shower gift and a Baby gift. I got my mother started on Cross Stitch and would buy her large kits to work on for me. She has finished some really large beautiful projects for my walls, but I am running out of wall space. That is why anything I have worked on lately has been for gifts.

I have such a hard time finding the time to devote to stitching too. I finally decided that since American Idol is back on, I can stitch during that show, which at the very least means 2 hours a week.

That's a great idea. My hubby and daughter are addicted to it, and you don't really have to "watch" it, just listen. Smudgie, here I come!

I love Xstitch and do lots of it, at the moment I am doing a Wizard kit that I was given for my birthday. It is on black material 18 holes per inch, so I have to have a TCS break every now and then to rest my eyes

I love designs on black. I have a poinseitta I've been working on forever that's on black. 18 count isn't too easy on the eyes, though!

Me too. And still it's only 3/4 of the way done....

I taught myself to cross-stitch when I was about 14, and just recently attempted to take it back up. I've only finished 2 real projects, and one turned out really really bad. The better one though was pretty, but soooo complicated - it was of dolphins with coral, pretty water etc.

I'm so glad you made a topic about this though! Now I get to bombard all you experts & veterans at cross-stitch with all my stupid questions about it when I need help!!

Ok, Heidi, you motivated me to start a new project. Now, I go to W-M to buy in the floss I need, and they don't carry one of the colors I need! DMC 372....supposed to be a lt. mustard.

That's odd. It's not even one of the new colors they introduced in 2003 I think. I looked it up in my color card booklet, and it looks like it's a drab olive/beige grey. I guess that's what they call mustard.

I decided to check out JoAnne's Fabrics this weekend to see what they carry. Great selection of fabric and floss! They even carry almost all of the Kreinik metallic AND the Kreinik silks! Better yet - they were having a sale on floss for 16 cents.
I was just mad that I only needed 6 colors. LOL

Lost in thoughts of quills...
I love cross stitch!! Right now I have a big one I'm working on. I love doing it and have the patience for it. I only really like to do animals though, with the execption of a few. The one I'm doing now is a whole bunch of sea life in a big circle. It has one for earth life too, but I'm doing that one later (as it is way bigger!!) Once I finish it I'll put a pick on here for you all to see! It really is beautiful.

There's no place like home
I used to do a LOT of cross stitch many years ago. I still own literally hundreds of books and magazines (just sold my 1980 series of Just Cross Stitch on e-bay). I used to own all of the DMC colors but know that I haven't bought any new colors since the 1990's so I'm out of date.

I actually have some books that are signed by the artist (Gloria of Gloria & Pat). I have entered original work in state-wide contests (never won). I own PC Stitch and have played with it but never made anything from it. I used to do nothing smaller than 18 count and actually did a very detailed print on 32 count once (not over 2 threads but over 1). I liked to work on 25 or 28 count the best - the results looked like fine artwork. I don't think my eyes could take that anymore.

As I'm packing up my house in preparation to move, I stumbled across about 10 WIP projects, some of which I started 10 years ago. One is a picture I graphed from a Jimmy Buffett t-shirt for Cheeseburger in Paradise - complete with burger (lettuce and tomatoes, heinz 57 and french fried potatoes, big kosher pickle) and a cold frosty beer. Guess I need to finish them or pitch them.

Anyone looking for that rare, out of print Cross-stitch book? Chances are I might have it and am thinking about selling my collection off one of these days (except for that 100 or so that I can't part with).

My favorite store? Cross Stitch and Such in the Chicagoland area - probably out of business by now.
