Well Oliver and I (as well as the hermit crabs, aquatic frog and one of the fish, haha) are visiting my parents for at least a week.... before I came home, I had asked my mom to pick up whatever 40 pound bucket of scoopable litter that she could find so that was one less thing I had to bring back from State College. I usually get the bucket of Sam's Club brand (I cant recall the actual name right now) - it's scoopable with crystals... not top of the line, but Oliver uses it and it works well for me... well my mom ended up getting Scoop Away at BJs, cuz that's all they had. This morning I decided to change out Oliver's box completely since he left a REALLY stinky stanky poo and it was due for a change... this is the first time I'm using scoop away brand litter and I find it EXTREMELY dusty.... now, I don't really mind this - I can deal and it's not like it will be our permanent litter but my question is, does this excessively dusty litter pose any health risks for Oliver? He has a covered box, but the door has been taken off, so I imagine the dust will be able to escape easily, but he is also a big digger when it comes time for him to poo... just want to make sure that this is an ok litter to use temporarily....

I don't know the definitive answer, but as long as Oliver will use the litter, I don't think it should be a problem since it's only for a week. Just hope he doesn't decide that he likes it better than your good stuff!

I wonder about that too, i find the dust so icky just being in there scooping their box...i wonder what they think, especially rambo when he digs his way to the basement through his box. I'm still on the hunt for a litter I can a) be happy with dust wise and smell wise and b) can afford regularly

Yup, that always seems to be the problem - satisfaction and cost.... I've found the Sam's Club stuff to be quite decent actually - It's clumping with crystals... a bit dusty, but the best I've used so far - not anywhere close to the scoop away dust-wise (for low-end litters anyway.... never tried anything but clumping stuff) and it's about $9 for 35-40 pounds and it's got a pretty pleasant clean smell - not too overbearing and I dont smell any of Oliver's "presents" unless they're particularly stanky stinky which is only once in awhile.... I'll try to get/remember the brand name of what Sam's Club carries - looks like I'm home for an additional week now though due to doctors' availabilities.....

Any more insight is welcomed!

Ok, I found a link to the Sam's Club litter:

Depending on which location you go to, the bucket may look a little different. The one in State College, PA had this exact one for the longest time, then the last 2 times I went it's the same brand litter and all but the bucket was oval shaped.... like I said, it's quite decent for not being top-of-the-line: minimal dust and nice smell.... I'm able to easily scoop both poo and pee clumps and I like the sturdy, air tight bucket it comes in - keeps it clean and dry....
