When I got on TCS this AM I was sure I'd find a thread about the Oscars.

I hadn't planned to watch any of it, but after checking the TV schedule it was the best thing on. (Note: we do not have cable or satellite and 6 stations to choose from. Would have 8, but their signals won't reach my corner of the county.)

Comments? I liked the film piece they did on cowboy movies of old - how they had no "gay" message. (Film clips taken out of context.)

I only saw one film that was nominated. Crash. It was brilliant.

Maybe it will get a wider audience now.

Although I loved John Stewart....the show felt to me like a desperate attempt to bring audiences back to theaters again.

What was the deal with that rap song winning best supporting song or whatever the category was? I didn't see it but they were talking about it on the radio.

Every time I had the urge to turn the show on last night, cnn.com posted an update of what was going on, so I never did......

I watched it for two reasons:
-Crash was a brilliant movie (as were Brokeback and Capote, but not as brilliant as Crash)

-JON STEWART! In the Chicago paper this morning they're busy critiquing him and saying that he won't get asked back next year, but compared to Billy Crystal's tired old routine, I thought Jon Stewart was awesome. But he's also one of my favorite famous people, and probably the funniest man alive, so those opinions taint my feeling about the show.

They kept showing montages of past film genres such as cowboys and film noir.

To me the funniest line in the show was when the host John Stewart said ...
"next there will be a montage of the montages." That cracked me up.

I also liked the bit in the beginning of introducing the host - featuring past hosts saying no.

I watched about an hour and a half before I was too tired to stay up anymore. I thought that Jon Stewart was excellent. I loved the openning that had them introducing the host - 1st Billy Crystal, Chris Rock, Steve Martin etc. That piece was hilarious.

What did everyone think about the fashions? I thought that Kiera Knightly looked gorgeous. I hated Naomi Watt's dress. I love looking at what everyone is wearing!

I was really pleasantly surprised that Crash won Best Picture, that was a really, really great movie! I had just assumed that Brokeback Mountain would of won.

Reese Witherspoon winning Best Actress was just fantastic! Walk The Line was an amazing movie, I loved it!

And that "Hard Out Here For A Pimp" won Best Original Song was awesome! I love that song but it was kinda weird seeing a hip hop group rapping it out on the Oscar's stage

I didn't watch at all I'll catch up online and watch The View this am.
We watched the movie Hustle and Flow where that song came from-DH didn't like the movie-I didn't think it was bad. I briefly watched a recap this morning.
I like the winners!!

I was only going to watch a little bit of the beginning to see John Stewart, but missed the first 15 minutes!

Anyway, I ended up watching all of it. I was SO glad that Crash won for best movie... and Reese Witherspoon for best actress. I LOVE her!
She really does seem to be 'normal' and down to earth. I loved when she thanked her kids and said they should be on their way to bed!

I also thought the 'visual effects' award bit by Ben Stiller was funny as well as the 'make-up' award bit by Will Ferrel was funny too!

I was also glad that March of the penguins won!

Do you guys hate it though when there are more than one recipient receiving an award and one of them uses up all of the time?

Could that bow on her shoulder have been any bigger?

I didn't watch all of it because I just wasn't really interested this year. I did catch the tail end of it - Reese Witherspoon to Crash.

I thought it was just beyond RUDE how they cut off the microphone when the thank you speeches went over their 1 minute. Especially for Best Picture. That's likely a once in a lifetime honor, I think they could spare an extra 30 second to let them thank everyone. Cut out some of the bits from the host and montages of nothing and give the people who win a few extra seconds leeway.

I have managed to see only Crash so far and I liked it very much. Other than that, I love Philip Seymour Hoffman's work in ie. Boogie Nights and Magnolia.

Is he the bad guy in the new MI3 movie. I saw a preview for it last night and it looked like him to me.

I did not see crash, but I did see Broke Back Mountain & frankly I was dissappointed it didn't win. It was a sad movie, but a very good movie. Everyone I talk to who has seen it got something differnt out of it. That being said I think if you can't handle the sight of 2 men kissing you won't like it. There were a couple scenes that made me a little uncomforable, but I think it was a good growth experience for me. I also think that the actors did an excellent job, just think about how difficult it would be for them to play those parts. I thought it was awsome, but that's just me. I'll get off my soap box before I really get going.
