Movin' on up!
I know that there have been threads about this before but, I just registered at an online dating site.

I haven't been on my own, for over 20 years and the thought of dating has me petrified. My time off of work is limited and I don't really go anywhere, to meet suitable men. Several of my friends have had good luck, at this particular site and I thought that I'd try my luck. If some of the profiles are true, there are quite a few "possibles".

I'm not looking for a full-time or long-term relationship - mainly someone to talk to, go out to dinner and dancing with. Two major requirements: MUST have a sense of humor and MUST like cats and dogs!

maybe I'll get lucky and find a nice friend.

I'm all for it.
I've met my past two serious boyfriends on the internet, and although I got made fun of initially, I think its a perfectly legitimate way to meet people as long as you are safe about it.

Edit: got made fun of by people who thought I was weird for trying to meet people that way

I didn't have good luck with online dating, so I gave up trying that a couple of years ago. I think it could work though. Good luck Cindy!

I can understand how it might feel (at least a little bit) and hope this works out well for you, that you find the companion you want.

As I've said before on this forum, after not dating for almost 10 years, I met my dh online (in a forum)

A very close frined of mine had a wonderful relationship that she met thru Match.com. She didn't have any luck with eHarmony, though.
Your expectations sound very reasonable to me & I hope that you find wonderful companionship & more

It has worked for some people Iknow but I was unlucky - I met only weirdos or fortune hunters (And I'm not rich!)

Well Cindy, I met Jerry online and it was the best thing I ever did. As always though, no matter HOW you meet a guy, you have to be careful! Don't be afraid to ask questions, be a little nosey, etc. I totally checked Jerry out before we met for lunch. (that lunch turned into 9 hours!)

Nine hours? You must have had dinner and breakfast together too.

Sounds like fun!

I didn't meet my love of my life online ,we met out our local club, BUT we both took eachothers msn address' and got talking, and met up, so in a way, the internet sort of fixed us up!

Best thing I ever did.

I've never tried it, but I have heard some success stories. I hope you have a great time and meet a wonderful companion.

I know many people who have met their perfect match on line and others who have met at least some good new friends. My aunt is an on line dater and while she is not currently involved in anything serious, she does now have some nice men she shares interests and outings with.

Good luck!

I made a lot of friends through online dating sites, but I was never overly impressed with the ones you have to pay for.

I actually met my current boyfriend on myspace.com. I had just moved to FL and was really just looking for people who shared any of my interests to hang out with because I knew no one when I first moved here.

Now, you gotta understand... I'm absolutely obsessed with rock/metal and long haired men. (Well taken care of long hair.. not that scraggly ponytail with 15 hair ties down it... ick) Anyway... when I found his info, he liked a lot of the same music and movies and things I did and all that, but the hair! My god. Forget the interests, I was in lust with his hair
So I wrote him.. a two word email... all it said was "nice hair"

So here I am... just shy of two years later... closing on a house together and getting married... eh, probably october. He cut his hair off last year (
) but he's still hot and he donated it all to locks of love, so at least someone else is enjoying it as much as I did

Just don't be too serious with it. Have fun. He said the main reason he wrote back to me was because of the picture I posted. It wasn't one of those typical "glamor shots" that most people post. Nah, it was a picture of me in Salem, MA eating breakfast at Denny's after a night of drinking looking completely out of it and holding a coffee cup. He said it cracked him up that I posted it and ended up posting a comment on the picture that said "be right over there to fill that coffee cup!" it was too funny.

Good luck. It's worth a try, although I gave it up after 2 dates who were WEIRD!!! This weird guy named Ryan, I could get him to leave me alone. All he wanted to do was eat cheese and watch me sign his cast...it was creepy!

I didn't have much luck with online dating
.... So I stopped doing it. I wish you plenty of good luck Cindy. And I only have one piece of advice for ya. Make sure they are who they say they are and not playing someone else. Meet the person first in a public place also.
