I just spoke with a very nice gentleman at the sheriff's office. The money is indeed mine. However, the mortgage co's lawyer has filed an objection and says he is entitled to more money.

I filed a chapter 7 bankruptcy as part of the foreclosure, so I don't see how he can say that. That discharges all my debts.

The sheriff's officer strongly suggested that I hire a lawyer to fight for this, as I am entitled to it. I have a call in to the lawyer who represented me in my bankruptcy, so keep those fingers crossed.

This may yet work out!

Anyone who takes such good care of so many cats does not deserve the rollercoaster they are putting you through. My prayer is that this can be worked out for you.

The mortgage company's lawyer wants more money. To avoid that, you have to pay your lawyer. That sucks.

That guy sounds like the stereotypical money-grubbing lawyer. Shame you'll have to hire your lawyer just to get what you're owed.

More news...lawyer called me back. He spoke with the other lawyer and it turns out there was some sort of assessment used to figure out his fees, only it was an old assessment. They've submitted a request for an adjustment in the fees (obviously, they want more money) and that needs to go to a judge for him to decide. If he agrees to it, I can challenge it if I want to, or just agree and take that much less money.

Depending on how much more he is asking for, we will see where this goes. No idea when the judge will make a decision on this. So...I am getting money, no idea how much or when. Sigh.
