Yep, that's about right.

Sounds great, fancy doing a house swap holiday?

I love seeing other people's homes! If I'm out driving around in the evening, I look in people's windows to see how they decorate. (blush)

I'm not sure I have a style. Modern casual, I guess. I don't like a lot of fussy details but I also want a room to look warm and lived in. I have oak floors throughout the house. The living room couch and chair are dark blue and very tailored. I have a plantation-style occasional chair with a cane seat and back. The coffee table is glass and there's a dark blue and red and cream-colored dhurrie on the floor. The artwork on the walls is black and white photos, mostly botanical stuff such as plants and ferns. I have lots and lots of books, two tall double bookcases full, and several ivy plants that need a haircut (I parked them in a bay window over the winter and let's just say they really like the light).

Bedroom: wrought iron bed, a slipper chair and a maple chest of drawers with an oval mirror on the wall. It's my retreat so I kept it simple.

I just had the kitchen redone last month. The cabinets are cream-colored, the countertops are charcoal-toned granite, the floor is pine. There's a double cabinet with glass doors for the nice china and wine glasses, which I hardly ever use, and a built-in shelf for cookbooks.

I have a really tiny house so I don't use color on the walls. They're all different shades of ivory. The bedroom windows have blinds, the other windows all have honeycomb shades. My cat is calico so her fur matches everything!

I want to build a small deck behind the garage this summer. But after the kitchen project, I am almost broke.

Post more pictures, please! I wanna see/read about everyone else's house!

My living room is a cabin, tan, with one dark brown accent wall, my bedroom is done in red and roses for romance (man I could use some of that!) complete with canopy bed and a mirrored red accent wall, my kitchen is slowly being redone into Irish cottage theme which will probably have a green accent wall, and my bathroom is like garden-y with flowers and fairies, and it's just white for brightness in a small room, and light green tiles. I like my house, I feel very comfy in it.

There's no place like home
I currently live in a 100+ year old victorian farmhouse, and it's a mixture of antiques, country, zany eclectic, and cat house. We've just bought a 1972 contemporary (moving in on April 1) and am rethinking how to decorate it. Most of the victorian antiques aren't going to fit well so I may just sell them with this house and start over. I love the woodsy lodge style homes but also love clean contemporary, but then love southwest. Perhaps when we get there I'll open up a poll on where to take that house.

My husband did say that he will build a row of benches out in the sun porch for the cats. The room is 36' x 13' and has windows along 2 of the walls. My bet is that will be the cat room. Hmmmm......do I see wall ramps and perches in our future?

Under the cats, mostly.
I really really love decorating.... dont' ask me why, I just do! I love colour - the bolder the better, if I have the right sized room for it, of course. I'm not an all-out rainbow-freak, but I can't stand to see nothing but white in a room. It's so plan and bland. That and Magnolia
my father was "Magnolia Man".

Susie-
Why do you have pumpkins and scarecrows outside and Easter decorations inside the house?

My style is "it's free or someone else bought it".

First came the tall dresser for the playstation 2 and tv. My friends dropped it off the day I moved in. I took the bookcase from the storage room in my parent's house thats next to it. The island thing in the kitchen was a garage sale find. My computer desk is actually my eldest sisters (6 old yr) dining room table that was in my youngest sister's bedroom, along with a chair. The other chairs were found in the garage. The reading desk is from IKEA, bought in Holland for my friends' flat. I took it when I moved back to the States. The bookcase next to the computer desk my mommy bought me from IKEA since she bought my youngest sister some kitchen ware, a dining room, etc. All my kitchen ware was leftovers, aside from a few christmas gifts from this past christmas. The lamps are from target.

Of course after putting this all together, my parents came over and looked around the apartment, saying how nice it was. A little crowded with the cat tubes/ little toys. It was then my dad realized that I didnt have a bed.

My reply was I had a computer & my playstation2. What more could I want?

A twin matteress and a cheap bed frame soon found thier way into my apartment, thanks to my dad.

The next thing to aquire on my "list" is a couch but right now there's no room.

We built a new house three years ago. My favorite room is the loft which is MINE. I have my sewing machine, my computer, and all my genealogy stuff. I have a ledge along one wall on which I have framed pictures of ancestors. I have a tv rocking chair and sofa too, so it is my own little retreat. My cabinets all over the house, kitchen, baths and laundry room are white oak so my house is mostly country. My dining room table and china cabinet is oak and I have chairs there with cane bottoms that belonged to my grandmother. My living room ceilings are 16 ft. high. I have a high ledge that has cats there that I have collected, some fabric and others porcelain, etc., totalling about 30. The furniture is all casual overstuffed fabric. On one wall I have all seven of the NC lighthouse pictures hanging there. One bedroom is decorated with my husband's grandmother's bed and dresser, painted white. The bed has a handcrocheted spread of tobacco twine with a quilt made for me by my favorite aunt as a housewarming gift. Another bedroom is decorated with my grandmother's bed and dresser. She picked cotten and paid $35 for both pieces. It is oak with the original glass in the dresser. The bed has a peach and green quilt. My master bedroom has an oak bed with two oak dressers. The quilt and shams are of all things CATS. I have a large picture on the wall which was a cat puzzle I put together. I painted it with the clear stuff for that from Wal Mart. My husband built the frame with wall board from my grandfather's house which we tore down here when we built ours. One bath is decorated with fish and the other is victorian. So overall, I guess you would say my house is just country and plain, like me. I love it.

I took interior design and I really love bold colors. It seems like many people are afraid of a little color in their lives but I'm not. I love bold reds, lime green, oranges and metalic colors...maybe not together but I still like them. I also love theme rooms. I am currently making my room a japanese themed room. My walls are a nice goldy brown color and then just about 6 feet up I have a deep red strip all around the room with black and silver japanese kanji over top. My sheets are gold and I am currently looking for a nice cover. My bathroom is going to be beach themed and my living room will be in the style of east indian.

I love my kitchen too.... but the portland one is bigger and when I get the range top and tiles I want and paint it blue I thinkI will like the new one even better. But thanks for the compliments. It's a 1925 house and the kitchen is modern but still fits in- plus ita a total breeze to clean and is always gleaming.
