Actually my hubby does...here is his question:

Which is the proper way to refer to multiple articles belonging to multiple companies?

these company's articles
these companies articles

or...as I thought...these companies' articles?

Confusing! TIA!!! Kim.

2nd vote for 'these companies' articles'. If it's more than one company, it has to be plural. The apostrophe signifies the possessive.

Aw thanks. I thought Smudgie would look good on one of his own. And I just found that flower background yesterday. The rainbow was harder. Took me quite a while to figure that one out!

It's easy if you just separate the pieces as a rule. If it were one company and many articles, it would be "the company's articles." If it were many companies and one article, it would be "the companies' article." And, as many have pointed out, many companies and many articles are referred to like so: "the companies' articles." Just remember that little guideline, and you won't go wrong.

To chime in at this point does seem a little redundant, but I'll do it anyway
"these companies' articles" is correct.

Since it's the "company" word that is being refered to as plural, I also vote for these comanies' articles.

Just to add to the redundancy, " these companies' " is correct.
