Hi I was just wondering if some of you would like to give advice/opinions on a problem that I have with my car. About five weeks ago the fan went out on my car. I took it to the place where I take my car to have work done on it, not the dealer. Anyway the "resistor" I think its called was broken so they replaced it ( a circuit board thingy with two wires) and three weeks later it quit again, SO I take it back and they replace the part again telling me that the part they put in had a bad wire....well three weeks later it breaks AGAIN. I am taking it in again tomorrow but this time they are saying it might be an electrical problem that they CANT fix and I might have to take it somewhere else..It cost me 200.00 to get it fixed the first time, the second time they didn't charge me cuz my husband took the call and told them if the part was bad they shouldn't charge, think they wanted to but didn't want to mess with hubby....what do you think? Good vibes appreciated....thanks for listening to me whine

That sucks! I hate car problems. I would take it to the dealer fro sure. They know how to fix the electrical stuff. It may cost more but they should have a warranty so if somehting goes wrong with it again it will be covered. Good Luck!!

I work in a Body Shop, & we deal with bad/broken parts all the time.

I know that we DONT charge a customer if we put on a bad part (headlamp, taillight, ect.) that doesn't work if we don't for some reason notice that its broken b4 we put it on the vehicle.

Why they would want to charge you for a broken part that they put on your car is very weird - its not your fault!

Do they know what kind of electrical problem? Do you know anyone that could do the work cheaper?

Does your vehicle have any kind of warranty or extended warranty that would cover the electrical problem?
GOOD LUCK!!

Yes, it sounds electrical- probably a fuse or something. I can almost guarantee that the people who "fixed" it made it worse

You might spend a lot of money, but the dealer is your best bet. Otherwise you'll end up shelling out the same amount of money with no results. Have them check your alternator as well
, and the battery- all spark plugs and especially the fuses.

Thanks, no they DON'T know, the one guy who hasn't worked on it yet and said he used to work at GM ( it is a pontiac grand prix) said he thinks it is either a power surge/short or a loose ground wire..... IMHO they should have checked for that when they fixed it but I am not a mechanic and don't know what is "usual" when something like a circuit board goes out, seems they would have checked it the second time anyway.....

I would either ask around for another mechanic or take it to the dealer. Sometimes only dealers can repair certain things. although I think electrical almost all places could.

These people do sound fishy to me though. Check your receipt. Most places will replace out within 30-90 days of the repair and should do so without question. Since your husband had to have a kind word with them, might be time for a new repair shop.

Supposedly tomorrow the other mechanic is going to be working on it....sigh, guess I will just have to wait and hope for the best. Know the dealer will charge me and arm and leg
