After all the sadness in my health forum thread, I thought I'd tell you about a cute trick I accidentally taught my cat as a little pick-me-up.

When I first rescued Tryon and flew her down to FL to live with me, she was a bit nervous about the whole thing and spent her days living under my bed. So when I'd go into my room to visit her, I'd say "Where'd you go?" in sort of a high pitched baby-talk voice and lay down on the floor next to the bed. Eventually she'd come out and I'd say "There you are!" and give her a good scratching. I ended up doing this a few times per day.

She got more brave as time went on and now rules the whole house

So now, it doesn't matter where in the house she is, all I have to do is stand in my bedroom door and say "Where'd you go?" and she'll come sprinting and trilling and purring from wherever in the house she was hiding. It cracks everyone up and makes it a heck of a lot easier when I need to catch her so I can cart her off to the vet

Anyone else teach their cat tricks?

All of my kitties know how to sit on command (of coarse there must be food involved or they don't take it as a command). Jordan, Isaac & Maggie all fetch. Isaac is the worlds best kisser as long as food is involved.

My cats have all been content to remain very cat like, completely ignoring me unless it's their idea.
Except for Spaz.
Spaz is a dog trapped in a cat's body.
Not surprising really, she's a Norwegian Forest Cat.

Spaz comes when called, without fail.
She sits and lies down on command.
She even follows me around the patio outside, and is quick to come indoors when I do.
She has always lived to please.

Katie comes running when I say "Where's my baby?" Peter comes for "Where's the man?" (only if I say it in a deep voice) and Gracie comes if I say "Who wants yummies?" (Whiskas treats). Still working on Claire.

The only cat that I've ever had that did a trick was Jericho, if my ex would put a treat in his hand, Jericho would grab onto his wrist and Brian would "lift weights" with him- it was so cute! He would also come when Brian called, not when I called mind you, just my ex

Tricks? Festie brings me her crinkle ball so I can flick it. Wait, she taught ME that trick!

When I use the bathroom, often Gar comes in and does a bellyflop so I rub his tummy. Oh, yeah, that was started by him, too.

I guess I haven't taught my cats any tricks, but apparently they have taught me a few!

My Trixie will jump up on her perch to get a treat. She'll come looking for me when she's in the mood for one. I'll walk over to her perch and say, "UP". Up she jumps........

When I was a kid, I got this siamese cat(my Sammy) for my 8th bday. The trick he inadvertantly learned was when ever he heard the electric can opener, he would come, so instead of saying here kitty kitty kitty, I just learned that it was easier to go get the can opener cuz he thought he'd get fed. haha

Maverick would be incredibly easy to train as she's so loyal and loving. But i just cant think of anything i want her to learn!

Both cats respond to their name and come when called. Jupiter can also tell the time! He knows to be in by 10pm on the dot!
