My cat is almost 7 months old, and she's been desexed and treated for fleas and worms etc. She's a healthy cat with a gentle nature. When she was around 4 months old, I spooted her furiously licking, biting, and sucking on her front leg, just above her paw and I took a look at it, but nothing was there. I thought it could have been fleas or a tick, hence why I treated her ASAP. For a week or two nothing happened, but since then, she will not just curl up and go to sleep because she will instead spend at least ten minutes lucking, biting, and sucking on that spot on BOTH of her front legs and in the same position. She purrs while doing it, but the sound licking effects and giant puddle of drool she leaves are not wanted and why she isn't allowed to sleep on my bed now. I've tried distracting her while she's doing it, but to no avail.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and/or knows what I can do because she's losing her coat in those two areas and the small amount that is left there, is a reddish-brown colour as opposed to black. Someone suggested i put peanut butter on her paw while she is licking, to distract her from it, but I think she may have an obsessive trait and it could then cause her to do the same thing but only with her paw. Any help is VERY appreciated.

Hi and welcome to TCS!

I hope you'll stick around and introduce yourself and your sweet kitty in the New Cats on The Block forum!

I am no expert, but as you say the area that she's over licking is removing fur, it could be a sign of a food allergy.

I think it would be worth while visiting your vet (or phoning them for a chat about the problem!) to rule out an allergy or eczema (or any other health issues) Once these have been ruled out, you will be able to concentrate on ways of ceasing this behavior knowing that there are no underlying problems!

Please come back and let us know how things go!
