Hi everyone

My two kittens were neutered yesterday and seem happy playing and eating but when I got home from work tonight they also have diarrhoea.

The vet gave us some different food to give them to help recover and I was just wondering whether it would be this that is causing the runny stuff or whether it could be something more serious??

Help!

jingle your vet .. food change and stress from sugery is likely the cause but call your vet

It could be the rapid switch to a different food. Your vet knows best, but I would call and ask him if it would be OK to put them back on whatever it was they were eating before the surgury and if a change is needed, to do so gradually, say ... over a three to four week course to prevent digestive upsets.

It is not a permanent food change, it is only for a couple of days until they are over the surgery and then they will be going back to normal food anyway.

Am glad that it is probably the food, that is what I thought myself but I wanted to be more certain. I will monitor them overnight and then if necessary get my partner to call the vet in the morning.

Judging by the general fighting and playfulness it isn't anything serious!!

Thanks x

that most certainly is a good sign! Just be careful they dont get to over playful just after the surgery.
i too agree that its probably the rapid change of food that has effected them

Even if temporary, once their digestive systems adjust to it in a day or two, you will be changing it again and potentially causing a secondary imbalance. That just doesn't make good sense to me. Which food did he give them to help aid recovery?

I've never heard of changing food after surgery unless the surgery was for some eating disorder/problem.

I'd check with the vet and ask why he wanted you to change foods as well.

I am also in the UK, and my vets do offer a recovery pack for after surgery, I have just never taken them up on the offer. I 'think' it is Royal Canin food, and they do one for both puppies and kittens.
