Hi all,

I'll be adopting a kitten in May, and he'll be travelling from Kansas by air. I'm wondering if I should bring my 4.5 month old kitten home first and let him get adjusted before I bring him to be altered, or if I should just do it all in one day. I'm worried that my kitten may start spraying or try to get out of the house if I wait too long.

May I ask why he wont be altered prior to you getting him ... at that age he should be able to have it done prior...Congrates on the little little boy what breed is he??

I am no expert but from my knowledge boys may spray that young but six months is more likely

Well, from my understanding the breeder asks me to do it and provide proof of alteration to retreive registration documents. . .or something like that. Should I confirm this with my breeder? Is this not normal?

p. s. He's a Russian Blue

Either way is normal.. just with the "baby boy " being 18 weeks coming to you it would be easy if the breeder has a vet to have him fixed prior to a stressful journey to his new home...

Russians are gorgeous and great personalities

well, I would LOVE for him to be fixed before I get him. I'm such a worry wort - I don't want him to stress out TOO much after I get him. I can hardly wait to get him. I'm glad to hear that someone thinks they have great personalities!

Maybe I'll ask the breeder if she could do this. . .

I would bring him home and restrict him to one room for a couple of days and observe him to see how scared he is. If he were mine I would want to have him trusting me when I take him for the surgery so I can handle him and observe his stitches after. Flying can go smoothly for one cat and at other times it can be very traumatic. If he is flying counter to counter make sure you are there before the flight arrives so you can get him right as he comes off the plane. Sitting in a noisy busy airport can be very stressful.

BTW I alter all my pet kittens berfore they leave me.
