I have a spayed 10 year old cat, declawed (sorry, I wasn't informed of the cruelty 10 years ago!) and a six month old neutered kitten with all his claws. The old one hates the new one, hisses and spits an swats with no claws. Do you think they will ever get along with each other and be friends? We have had the kitten since six weeks old and he loves to play or try to with the other cat.

i also am having a hard time introducing a 6 month old, fully clawed male( Dexter )to my 3 year old, fully clawed female (Minnie May)...i am told there is hope, though!!
i recieved both of them, 1 year apart, from a friend of mine who helps out with the ally-cat rescue.i am going through the stage of letting them smell each other through the door...praising them when they are civil to each other..it is hard work, but i am very patient and i supervise everything...a customer told me about a holistic, floral remedy called "Rescue Remedy" and it seems to keep my Minnie May a little more relaxed and less skittish around him...i hope your baby gets along with the new baby!!
Peace and good luck!!

Hi spots1, welcome to the forums.

The voice around this place is there is hope for your babies. Patience is the key. It can take a while, more than a few weeks, but eventually they will get used to seeing eachother and being around one another. Hopefully in no time at all they will become buddies.
ah-my has some very good suggestions. They really seem to work. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!!

Yeah, I have found after 11 cats that the older ones will usually calm down and tell the kitten where thier place is or just give up and ignore them. Some cats take a little longer to adjust. Just give it a little time and give both of them lots of love.
