Just curious. How long before Goldie's babes will start to use the bathroom facilities on their own? They are 3 1/2 weeks old now and I don't see any progres in that area!

Thanks for your input.......

They're still very young, Debra, but are they eating out of a dish now? If so, Mommy will stop cleaning up after them. Then I would take each one to the litter box and scratch the litter with their paws. There will be accidents, but instinct and a bit of odor in the litter box will teach them. Is the box low enough for them to enter easily? Sometimes a kitten will not get the idea immediately and will try to eat or play with clean litter. Eventually, and it doesn't take long, they will use it on their own. It's essential to try to catch accidents in the making and put the baby in the litter box, at which time I would pet and praise him.

No Jeanie - momma still doing the feeding. They are confined into a kitty condo with mom as she is still pretty feral. We have lots and lots of huggie and social time and the kits are progressing nicely with human contact. I think this is even helping mom too! There is a box in there for mom and the kits are climbing in and out of it. Guess it will just take time - but I thought I should watch. Yesterday little G-man peed on me when I was rubbing his belly! I should have known better!

They usually don't start really going on their own until they are on solid food. Even then, mom will still clean them
Trust me, you will know when they are going on thier own
I would say it can start anywhere from 6 weeks up.

any stimulation to those bellies will mimic mom's tongue and as it is for the sole purpose of making them eliminate, you might want to just rub their heads and chests for awhile! LOL
Are you keeping Goldie?

Every time Iris and I play together she immediatley rolls over on her back and wants a tummy rub. I will have to talk to that little girl about her attitude!
Guess you know whAt she thinks of me!

Debra! I'm shocked! May I correctly translate and paraphrase that as "Urinate on you!"? A sweet and innocent little kitten would think that? Oh, my! You know kitties are little
, or are they?

Debra, I just wanted to say when Sunshine had her kittens last year, they were about 5 weeks when they started to LB train. I came up with a good idea to make a "small" one for them. I took a cereal box ( like the large ones from Cheerios ) and cut the top off. Then I cut one end off leaving a small lip. I lined it with a plastic bag, and filled it w/ litter.

It made it very easy for them to make their way in and out, and it only took a day or two till they realized thats where they were supposed to go. We hardly any accidents at all, it was awesome!!

That is a great idea with the cereal box thing. Mine will be 3 weeks tomorrow. They are already drinking out of the water dish, licking the cat food, and now they have begun to start peeing on the carpet...little terrors. *Good thing I have a handy deep cleaner* Anyway, I guess I'll have to do that right away to train them. The learned the other day how to climb up to the bed, so I better train them fast before they start peeing on the bed.

There's a good product for the carpet accidents that cleans and deodorizes immediately. It's called Zap-a -Spot for carpets, specifically for pet stains. I got it on QVC. It can be ordered on line. Just spray and forget it, if you catch it while it's still wet.

Thanks! I'll have to try that. I have tried a few other products before, can't remember what they were it was awhile ago though, but they didn't work that good. But I'm always up for trying something new!
