In september we are planning a ten days holiday. What would be preferable:
1. A neighbour ( a real catlover) that checks in daily for inspection, feeding and cleaning of litterbox but only for a quarter of an hour per day.

or...
2. Getting the two cats to my parents' place( strange environment ) but where there's costantly someone around?

Either way, seeing that our cats are rather neurotic and scared of all new things, they'll hide under the couch or find a secure spot somewhere.

All advice is very welcome.

Usually when we are gone on vacation (usually only for 2 days during the weekend) We have our neighbors come over and check on him, feed/water him and change the litter and play with him.

He used to go to our neighbors place and stay, but after he got fixed, he didn't like to go over there - it would stress him out too much to be in a different environment.

From now on, we just keep him at home and we have people that check on him in the morning, afternoon and night to play with him
We are fortunate to have such great neighbors to keep an eye on my little devil!

Good luck!

Thanks babyharley!
My preference was also the neighbours! One cat is not for nothing called " Troubles"

I just know that Harley does not adjust well to new environments, and for us its better to keep him at home, where he is comfortable

I'm glad you decided on your neighbors!

I agree with having your neighbors check on the cats. That's what I do when I go out of town. The cats are definitely more comfortable in their own environment.

My problem is I don't trust anyone to watch my babies but me

We have a couple young girls (like 10 or so) in the neighborhood who pet sit, but I just don't want someone that young in charge of my cats! Especially the one who I've seen be not too nice to her own cat on one occasion. And I know if I ask any of the neighbors, they will just send their kids to do it anyway.

I do have friends who I would trust, but who don't live close enough for me to feel comfortable asking them to do that, espcially if I'm away for a week.

So, what can you do under those circumstances? I guess I won't be taking any vacations

Ask a friend that you trust even if they have to drive for awhile. Make it up to them somehow - return the favor, pay them, take them out, buy them something nice... AND check up regularly.

I always have someone come in to check on them! I used to have a friend or neighbor do it before I moved, now I have a technician from my vet's office. I know my neighbors well enough now to let them do it, but on the other hand Rocky has herpes and is prone to asthma, therefore I'd rather have a "professional" on hand.

Thanks all!

Hi Zak and Rocky...good idea about the technician. Going to see if that it's possible around here.

Sorry to hear Misty... about that young girl and her behaviour. Take care.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I go to my boyfriends in Scotland for weekends, and rather than uproot Rosie and Sophie to a different environment my neighbour comes in every day to feed, water and scoup for them.

Rosie especially is a flirt with any man that comes in once she gets to know them, especially my neighbour because she knows she gets a couple of her treats from him

I always have friends come in when we go away. Abby is a very nervous cat and wouldn't do well being taken out of her environment.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip!
