Hi! I'm new here and I have a question about my cat.
She is a 10 month old former stray I found when she was two weeks old.

Well the problem is that about a week or so ago she started having yellow and green vaginal discharge. She has also been licking herself in that area more than normal.
I first noticed the problem because she went two days without eating much and she puked a week ago.
She is eating again and hasn't puked since but still has the discharge. She growls at me when I try to clean it off her.
Does anyone have any advice as to what the problem might be.
Thanks for your time.

Absolutely take her to your vet. If unspayed, pyometra is exactly what I'd be concerned about, if pregnant, I'd be very concerned, if spayed but doing this, I'd be concerned...vet, no matter what her spay status is.

She has not been spayed. Nor has she ever been pregnant.
I'll try to get her to a vet as soon as possible.
Thanks.

I just want to stress that if left untreated that a pyometra is life threatening, it will kill her. Thank god it sounds like an open pyometra otherwise it would have already killed her. Good luck.

Yes get her to the vet right away, I lost my peanut years ago from what started as a little discharge, the infection had spread through her body so bad she had to be put to sleep.

I am very glad you got her right in, and really glad you stopped by here to ask!

Keep us posted on how she does.

I also wanted to know if there are any possible side affects from being spayed that I should be concerned about.

There aren't any side effects from spaying that I've ever known of. If anything, you'll have the weight off your shoulders of any other infections popping up (or a pregnancy to deal with!) and your cat will probably be healthier overall as a result.

Only good things, no meowing at night when she is heat, no more risk of pyometra, no wanting to wander to find the boys, all good things. A spayed cat is a happier healthier cat.

The spay will also greatly decrease her risk of mammary cancer in the future.

Glad to hear you're getting that all cleared up! No bad side effects from a spay - just a little scar really, but the doctors seem to be able to make that scar smaller and smaller all the time... hey, at least you've got a girl - the boys always seem a little peeved after you take their "parts" away!
Good luck, I'm sure she'll be just fine!

I noticed last night and early this morning that her discharge was a red or redish brown color. Is this normal?

No, please call your vet to let them know. Brownish is older blood, red is a fresh bloody discharge.

I took her to the vet it was blood that was coming out. She was also running a fever and dehydrated. I had to go to a different vet because my regular one was out sick.
She is on a different medicine and scheduled for an emergency spay on monday.
Also the vet said there was to much fat in her blood sample so she may have a liver problem.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this. Prayers going out to you that Monday's spay will fix all her problems and she'll get better really soon.
