Do you want a clumping clay litter, or a non-clay litter?

8 in 1 makes some good natural corncob based clumping litters - I've been using Fresh Results (purple bag with a white cat on it - available at some grocery stores and at Wal-Mart) for a while now & love it - it's not dusty at all. I think their One Earth litter (at health food stores) and Nature's Miracle (at pet supply stores) litters are supposed to be similar. It's also handy because it's flushable in moderate quantities.

A lot of people here like World's Best Cat litter. It's supposed to be very good, but I've never tried it because it's too expensive for me since we have 4 indoor cats.

If you want a clay clumping litter, Tidy Cats Scoopable is very good, and didn't seem as dusty to me as other clay brands I've tried. It's available just about everywhere in the US.

The best cat litter is the one that your cats will USE.

I like the idea of Swheat Scoop, Feline Pine, Yesterday's News and World's Best, but my cats did not agree.

I use exquisicat because it's the only unscented clumping clay litter I can find around here, and that's the only thing my cats will use. I have one extremely picky one.

I just gradually introduced my girls to Worlds Best because of the dust issue. I was using Scoop Away; which was very dusty! So far, I have no problems with Worlds Best. Both girls are using it and I am extremely pleased. However, today is day one of 100% Worlds Best, so my opinion may change by the end of the week!
I'll let you know if it does!!

MINE are like that - they ONLY liked Fresh step and it too was SO dusty. I am now using Tidy cat crystals blend. It is a LOT like fresh step but little to no dust, and my cats like it!

I just tried Tidy Cats immediate odor control and I don't like the smell of it, so I will be switching when it runs out. I have one box with that, one with Swheat Scoop, and one with Everclean, and I'm trying new ones too cuz those are so dusty.

I like scoopable litter & have tried several brands. So far the one I like best is Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat. The granular is a little larger than Tidy Cats, etc, it clumps well, controls odors & has virtually no dust.

We use Tidy Cats - Harley likes it - I tried Feline Pine, but he wouldn't touch it! Picky kitty!

I've been using Exquisicat Pine (it's really a cheap version of feline pine) and that's been great. No dust and it blocks odors a lot longer than the clay litter I was using.

Just a note here - when switching litters you may have more luck if you do it gradually, i.e., put some of the new in with the stuff you regularly use and gradually increase the amount of new until you are totally switched over.

The ONLY Tidy Cats I will use is the one with the Crystals blend. The others have a terrible smell!

IF your cats will use a litter with larger granuals then Dr Elseys NON scented litter is excellent. MY cats like a sandier litter and what the heck - it IS their litterbox!

The cat I'm adopting is used to using Feline Pine. I'm ok with getting that, but I'm new to the whole 'non-clay' litter. Do you have any tips, hints, stories to send my way?

I have been using Natures Miracle since I got Mioko, however I don't care for the pine scent. I just bought some unscented Worlds Best to try next. I doubt switching from one corn type litter to another corn type liter would hardly be a problem. Mioko really doesn't seem too picky about her litter, I think she's just happy to have someone taking care of it for her.

my girls came from a shelter where they use plain ol' clay litter.

when we brought them home, i plopped them in the litter box filled with World's Best Cat Litter, and they've been totally fine with this. no accidents. very little dust. a bag lasts a long time. i'm very pleased with this litter.

We use Feline Pine and LOVE it! Jasmine is a digger and she can dig forever in the Feline Pine. I really like it becasue there is no dust and I can just scoop her poop right into the toilet. It is very inexpensive and it is friendly to the enviroment. It was a little weird at first becasue you don't scoop the urine, just the poop. The urine soaks into the pellets and turns into unscented sawdust. No urine smell AT ALL and hardly any tracking! Its the best letter I have ever used!

I use Fresh Step with the crystals. No dust issues.

Tidy Cats was SOOOO dusty for me. I could actually see the dusting rising for minutes after I filled the box and I would cough and choke and the cats would sneeze and their eyes would water. I used the one for Multiple Cats.

I use the Tidy Cat's crystals and they work really great. There is another kind of crystals out there too - fresh step - but I found that one dyed my litterbox blue, so I figured it can't be all that great for the cats then.

Midir & Etain have been using Feline Pine for a few years now. We love it. Not dust, no awful cat urine smell, its flushable, and you can even dump it in the garden if you want (I hear this is good for repelling deer and rabbits, but since I live in an apartment, I haven't tested it).
It's inexspensive and readily available at most stores including wal-mart, target and petsmart.
I like the fact that they aren't getting all kinds of funky chemicals on their paws or inhaling that nasty dust found in so many of the clay and clumping litters.
Since discovering Feline Pine I haven't bought anything else, but before that we did try some of the crystal litters (that was back when they first came out) and wow, is it painful to step on that stuff when they track it out of the box onto a nice hard floor
