My kittens are 10 days old. They have fleas as their mother was an outside cat. Since I can't give them a flea treatment until they are 8 weeks old and I want to releive them of some of the burden of fleas I am wondering how soon can I bathe them? I would greatly appriciate a response. Thank you.

You can try picking the fleas off - just have a tub of soapy water at hand, and drown them as you pick them off.

Cats are very susceptible to drafts, so I would really be leary about giving newborns a bath.

Personally I do not bathe any kittens under 8 weeks of age. The reason is a lot of the flea shampoos can be toxic to kittens, as well as kittens are very susceptible to drafts and can get ill quickly. If they are so flea-infested, buy a flea comb and comb them out daily. This gets them used to being handled by people, but please don't bathe them at a really young age, it could cause some problems.

Thank you. I didn't want to bathe them with a flea shampoo I just wanted to bathe them in general. Thanks for telling me before I did it.

I put some suggestions under your other post. I bathed my cat right away, he had fleas. But I use a shampoo from a local all natural store. I wouldn't use any commercial brands, especially flea shampoos. They're really toxic. Good luck, fleas are such a pain!

Have thought about using Brewer's Yeast? It is completely natural, so when mother or kittens eat it no harm done. You just rub the powder all over the kittens, mother, and their bed. Brewer's Yeast works great at repelling fleas.

Giving your kittens a bath in flea medicine would probably kill them, so please be careful. When I was a little girl my grandpa bathed our cat's 3 kittens in flea medicine. All of them died. I can remember watching them die and it was awful. My grandpa felt sooo guilty.

hmmm... I bought mine at petsmart and it worked great. Maybe our cats had different kinds of fleas?

You bought Brewer's Yeast at Petsmart? Are you sure it was only Brewer's Yeast? Its a human food supplement. I don't know if there are more than one kind of flea, but I fed it to my cat and rolled him in it, and rubbed it into his fur. It didn't work, but it was pretty funny.
