I love ranch and garlic ranch. Not only for salads but for dipping veggies in. Next is Olive Garden's Italian.... Yummy!! I wish I had the recipe for that Italian!

I'm surprised at how many people like blue cheese dressing. Most people I know don't like it. I picked ranch, but my true fav is Creamy Bacon Ranch!
Anything is good with bacon.

Ditto. I dont know many people that like Blue cheese. I really dont, well I've never tried it, but yea, It just doesnt look any good. But the ranch with bacon...THE best thing ever invented...well maybe not the best...There's better THINGS in the world...but no salad dressing better than that.

I couldn't agree more.
As far as dressing goes, Bacon Ranch is the best, but there are certainly better things in the world.

For me it depends to a large extent on what's in the salad, and I like to just concoct something that fits. However, there are a couple of prepared ones that I like to have around: there's a very nice Vidalia Onion dressing, that's also nice for marinating chicken; the relatively new line of fruity dressings from Lite House are good, particularly the Pomegranate/Blueberry one; and I do like Blue Cheese dressing, but will usually make it myself if that's what's called for.

I love blue cheese, though I generally make it homemade. Getting good (not too bitter) blue cheese is key.

Ranch dressing is my favorite, but I wish I liked oil and vinegar because I see it as more restrained and upper class!

On the TV show Lost one of the characters was caught hoarding a huge restaurant size jar of ranch dressing and one of the overseas message boards was asking "What is ranch dressing?" I was wondering how cat site folks would describe it?

I love Ranch, too, but it's so high in fat that I've started trying to train myself to like my own homemade version of it: buttermilk, minced garlic, chopped parsley, a little touch of olive oil, a sprinkle of salt, a tiny touch of sugar, and a whole whacking lot of freshly-ground black pepper... and most important of all, a LOT of finely shredded Grana Padano parmesan. The parmesan thickens it up, and of course, the flavor is just beyond words... Grana Padano is the best parmesan in the WORLD.

When I run across some good fresh basil, I mince it up and toss it into some olive oil with red wine vinegar, then add a little pepper and a little salt. You can use balsamic vinegar instead, and that's great too.

But the very best thing to do with real balsamic vinegar (the almost prohibitively expensive kind you get in gourmet stores, that's been aged forever and has very low acid) is drizzle it over ripe strawberries. Not vinaigrette -- just the pure balsamic vinegar itself. Bliss.

You can have the berries and balsamic alone as a dessert, or you can toss in some radicchio and Boston lettuce and a few walnuts... ahhh...
