My cat has had some stress the past few months that led to some behavior problems with the litter box. He has been to the vet and was given a clean bill of health. I assumed before he went to the vet that it would be stress related since the timing was around the time when my father was ill.

I have seen feliway recommended on these boards. I was wondering if Feliway had to be in the room with the litter box or not. The issue is that the room with the litter box doesn't have any outlets. I cannot put the litter in another room. So I wondered if the Feliway just simply had to be in an area where the cat spends a lot of time.

Yes, it does. It needs to be somewhere where the cat will be able to ingest it on a pretty regular basis. If you can't put it in the room with the litter, could you possibly get an extension lead and a power-board and extend it in there?

No, there is no way to put in an extention in that room because of the spacing between the closest outlets. And even if there was a way, there would be no way to do it without it being a tripping hazard. His litter has been in the same place for most of the 16 years we have had him. And there is no other place to put the litter.

He doesn't spend much time in the room with the litter. He spends the majority of his time in the living room, so I was thinking of trying it there.

Well, that should work. I mean, he'll get lots of it if you put it where he spends most of his time. It may not work for you, but I think it's pretty successful in nearly all cases.

Feliway Plug ins have quite a large range for where the scent gets to! I think it covers at least a couple of square meters at least!

Putting it in the lounge should be fine - if it is close to the room where his litter tray is and the scent can eminate into there.

I hope it works for you!

Failing that, you could get it in a spray from and spray it around the litter tray area....

Actually, you want to put the Feliway where you don't want him relieving himself. Cats won't eliminate where there are facial hormones.

My recommendation is to put the Feliway diffuser where he hangs out the most so he starts to calm down. I put mine at the top of the stairs because that we had a few territorial disputes and I wanted to have everybody be able to go up and down the stairs.

If he had urinated in places, clean them with an enzyme cleaner and spray some Feliway spray in these spots.

Here is link to their UK site (the US site wasn't working). http://www.feliway.uk.com/feliway_uk.nsf/Page?OpenForm It answers a lot of your questions.

That works then since the place he spends the most time in does have an outlet.

Since I could only get the the UK site, I can actually answer that questions - 50 to 70 sq. meters.
