I'm sorry Patrick hasn't been doing well. You both will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I was right that Patrick's injured eye is doing amazingly well. My vet did feel one episode of irregular heartbeat but only one..we'll see if this becomes a factor in the future.

For now, she agreed, check labs (status of his anemia, kidney function) and his urine, and for the nasal stuff, we put him back on Baytril which is what worked so well last time. He's also now back on an antihistamine. She agrees with dh and I, it may be very soon, but today or tomorrow is not yet the day to say goodbye.

Patrick purred at the vets - first time this week, so it was not a distress or pain purr, it was a don't stop rubbing my chin, I love you purr.

So that's where we are at. He is much more alert, walking well..just want to see him feel well enough to ask for treats again...soon.

Oh gosh........ I missed this thread, somehow! But, I wanted to add my positive thoughts being sent, Your's and Patrick's way. I really do hope he continues to be on the upswing, and for a lot longer than what you may think... I KNOW how very, very painful and un-nerving it is, when our furbabies are ill
You are SO good to him and I know he loves you all the more, for that!

Ah...now we know what is going on, what is wrong. It's a combo, where feeding the Hills A/D is probably why, for the first time, his phosphorous levels are up (putting him on a binder that will take care of that)..the muscle weakness - secondary to his volume of urination with dehydration leading to low potassium (can account for the heart arrthymia felt briefly during his vet visit this week, and his muscle weakness) - going onto a potassium supplement for that.

His BUN is up significantly BUT his creatinine is normal, I know from my support list what this means, and my vet agrees - he has some gi bleeding secondary to his gi disease (he has either ibd or lymphoma for which he's been under treatment this past year).
There is a coating medication called carafate that we will use to address this.

Waiting for urine culture results - he's spilling glucose which then means his bladder is a more hospitable environment for an infection...the baytril he is on should address a bladder infection, if he does have one.

So.........this is it. Either the carafate, potassium supplement, phos binder gets him back to being comfy and having some quality of life, or we have truly done absolutely everything that can be done, and we will send him home, with love.

I would not be surprised, not one bit, if he didn't turn around and have a few more good months, but it is up to Patrick, and it's in God's hands.

Well, you've got a little fighter there, so maybe he WILL rally -- I do hope so -- continued prayers for both of you

Oh gosh, My heart is with You and dear Patrick too! I SO know how it feels, to be exploring EVERY possible route, to make them feel better, and help them have some quality of life.... If it is meant to be, it will happen. But, I am wishing You and Patrick a lot of comfort and peace during this time.((HUGS))
