My program I use for signatures used to pop up a window when I wanted to save it so I could compress it as much as needed. Now it won't do that anymore, and I cannot find how to do it, I've scoured the program. Most siggys I make do need to be smaller in bytes for the site's size limits.

Help?

You'd probably need to ask someone familliar with the program that you are using. Does it have a "help" file where you can look it up?

In PSP when I click "save as" they have an "options" tab where I can select "run optimizer". Or from the "File" tab, I can click "Export" & then either "JPG Optimizer", GIF Optimizer" or "PNG Optimizer".

I don't know if it's the same with your program... which one are you using?

Oh... I was thinking maybe someone knew about some type of downloadable free thing. I'm using Photofiltre, and I don't think it's the same, but I could try. Thanks.

If you have microsoft Photo editor you can resave the files using that program and you get a choice to trduce the file size. the loss in quality isn't huge either. I use that and a mixture of saving in Photoshop. I find by mixing and matching I can get the best quality available to that file size.

Alright... I downloaded Irfanview. Now what? I can't find where you can make the file size smaller.

Go to "File" and "Open" your image. Then go to "Image" and "Resize/Resample", where you can change the dimensions or dpi. Once you've made the changes, go back to "File" and use "Save" or "Save as". Hope that helps!

Ok- I don't need to change the dimensions, but is the dpi, like, the file size?? I'm not really familiar with all these fancy terms

Thank you for helping me! (I really like your new sig by the way!!)

That's dots per inch. If you reduce the number (not too drastically, start with subtracting 1 or 2), your file size will also be reduced. It's often a matter of trial and error.
Your current siggy is 31,392 bytes at 72 dpi. If you reduce the dpi to 71 or 70, you end up with 22,195 bytes, without much loss in picture quality:

I didn't make the background to my new siggy. I downloaded one from a site offering free backgrounds (for Photofiltre), and then played with "effects" until it came out that way. I just wish I remembered what effects I used!

xat.com has a great utility (image optimizer) that lets you look at how it looks at each level and add a blur to make it look better if you have to reduce alot. i find simply opening it in MS Paint and saving it usually helps a lot too.

Did you get that figured out? You could search your hard disc for *.exe or *.zip to see if you can find the file.

I'm not sure where my D:\\ drive is. If it is in the CD ROM drive in mine.. I dunno.. I might have had it open (or however you'd say that) when I installed it. Because I remember, around the time I installed it, I had been getting pics outta that drive I think (I don't know much what I'm talking about here so bear with me
