I just visited a science website that listed the top ten most deadly creatures on earth.

The African Lion came in at number 5.

4th place went to the Great White Shark.
3rd awarded to the Australian Box Jellyfish
2nd place: the Asian cobra

and........drumroll.........

Most deadly: The Mosquito

That reminds me to put a fresh bulb in the bug zapper for this summer. (not that it works on mosquitos)

That's a reality check right there. An itty bitty mosquito is more deadly than a shark or lion. Wow

Did you find that from the story about that cave on Yahoo? I just read that a while ago and also went to that link with the top 10 deadliest.

Honestly, I'd rather be eviscerated by a lion and die in a couple minutes than get some sort of blood-borne illness like Malaria and die slowly and unpleasantly.

Me too. I'm the only person I know who can get bit twice in a row in the dead of winter!!

They bite me through the bug spray.
I've even had mosquitos that bit through my jeans, and socks!

I love how 2 of those deadlys are in Australia all the time!!! (Not including the mosquito of course, which we do have but not the diseases that go with them!)

Mosquitos are so annoying, I don't mind giving a little blood, but why does it have to itch so bad?

Fortunately they are not a big menance in the city area here, and malaria was eradicaded in the 19th century. It sounds really bizarre, since we're accustomed to think of malaria as a tropical menance, but it used to be quite common in Northern Europe too.

BTW, I think they left the deadliest critter of them all out of the list: Homo sapiens sapiens.

I usually think that every creature on earth has some value, some purpose that is good for something....but I can never think what that is for a mosquito...i hate those little things!
