Ok... Here's the deal... I found this kitten out in the middle of the highway during the storming back when all the hurricanes were happening... So we took it to the vet because it had a big wound on its leg, so they fixed it up and she's been fine ever since. Butttt..... She has been staying indoors at night, and let outdoors in the morning, but recently she's been getting into the habit of waking me up at 4 in the morning to go outside. But now, there are other cats outside that give her a hard time and chase her, and I can hear cats screaming outside 5 minutes after I let her out, yet she refuses to come back inside, and is still desperate to go outside every morning. I would like for her to be strickly indoors, but in the morning she wails like a dying moose, clawing at the door, and wont let me get an ounce of sleep until I let her out... (she has to be confined to my room during the night because my dad is allergic and gets mad when she's out in the night) Anyone got any advice? I'd greatly appreciate it

Ok, thanks for the help, I'll just refuse to let her out, even if it does mean no sleep after 4 in the morning, and I'll gunna get her spayed just as soon as I can get the money. I'm going in for training at a new job in a few days, so it wont be too long.... and if she does get pregnant before then..... The more the merrier I reckon
Thanks abunch

I would recommend meditation or ear plugs so you can ignore her when she starts up. Ignoring her will give her no positive reinforcement and soon she will stop it. Good luck.

It sounds like she has you well trained

Your cat had the response she wanted the first time, so she continues to do it. Unfortunately once the habit has been learned it may take some time, patience and ear-plugs to break it.

My Jake used to do it regularly, his habit was to sit on the bedside table and meow directly into my ear
We had to, well, just ignore him.

It took some time for the message to get across, and now he will wait until either my husband or i are awake before asking to go out.

However if i wake up too early, its a case of lying very still to hide the fact

Certainly if she is not 'fixed' then you may find yourself with kittens to cope with as well. And if she is fighting then vacinations are a good idea if she hasn't already had them.

You did a very kind thing bringing home an injured, scared kitty.
Well done.

look for a low cost vet or clinic in your area. if you are letting her outside now when she is not spayed yet that is pretty irresponsible. she can get badly injured or pick up all sorts of diseases from the random toms trying to mate her...just a thought, either keep her in until she can be spayed or take her outside on a leash. how old is she by the way?

Well, she was just a little kitten back in June when I found her, but now she's gotten to be pretty big, I dont really know how old she is.

But she's had all her shots and stuff, and the cats that are giving her a hard time are our outdoor cats that we've had for about 3 or 4 years, and they've had their shots too so I'm pretty sure they wont be giving her diseases and such. Our neighbor's cat is over here sometimes, but it doesnt really bother her at all, its a real friendly cat and seems to be perfectly healthy.

I live out in the middle of nowhere so there's not many other cats, and when a strange cat does come up, my dogs usually chase it away.

But, like I said, I'm trying my best to get some money so I can have her spayed. The cheapest I can find right now is about $120. I've been out of a job for a while, but I start training for my new job tomorrow, so I'll have the money very soon.

And I won't let her out anymore no matter how much she cries, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again for ya'lls help!

When I had my cats, they used to wake me up, but not to go outside or to eat or anything--just for snuggles. I used to get them and give them a good scratching until they went lax and went back to sleep. See if you can do that, most indoor and affectionate cats fall for it or so I hear.

Oh and do NOT pay $120 dollars for a spay. I used to work at a veterinary clinic and we charged $75. And that was for pre-op injections, suture removal, and an overnight stay.

There is another clinic around here that is a lot less expensive. Do you drive? If you do, you can shop around and get a better rate. Most vets don't mind if you compare their rates.
Just don't get jipped.

Oooh, yeah I used to work at a vet, cleaning kennels and taking care of boarding cats and dogs, and they charged 120 for neutering too, so I figured it was an average price... But they also went bankrupt and had to close. Thanks for that bit of info, I'll definately start looking around for another vet with better prices now!

You could also look for low cost clinics. Some of the shelters here do that. I don't know how "safe" it is. The shelter where I got Swanie is where he was neutered, and he is okay.

Also, I would suggest as some others have that it's a matter of her training you. Our neighbor's cat Misty used to spend a lot of nights with us. Her mama told me that Misty always woke her up at 4:00 to go out (she was spayed), and she tried that with me, but it didn't work. She eventually stopped trying until 6:00 when she knew I was getting up anyway.

They are vets too, many of them just volunteer their time to help out to make sure more people get their cats fixed because it is an extremely importqnt thing to do. Maybe more people would be willing to do it if vets charged less for it. Or there were more low cost clinics and mobile clinics around.
