I have been a new mama since the beginning of January she just got spay a week ago and she has licked her incision open I have a cone on her head now and the opening has scabed over but it doesnt seem to be healing very quickly. The vet says that it is okay and to leave the cone on for another week but she walks around like she hates me and seems to be very tired all the time I feel like a horrible mama am I just being paranoid??? is there something i can do to speed along her recovery???

I just posted a really long post about this, but it got deleted when I tried to get the link for what I was talking about...

So let me sum it up..

Give lots of love to this kitty...Of course she's mad about what's happened to her..But thank you so much for getting this kitty fixed. It helps even just a litle bit. Lots of love...and listen to what the vet says.

She doesnt hate you..It's just like a human having surgery. We are mad and tired. It's just what happens. But lots of love, and extra attention to that incision. If it bleeds, call the vet, heck, even take her in if you feel that she's not doing any better.

As for that link I sent you..It's a link to "feliway" and "comfort zone" I use comfort zone in my house, and it's worked wonders. It's just kind of a stress reliever.... "kitty style". It just lets them know everythings gonna be ok. If you haev some extra cash, I would suggest that. Check it out.
Good luck

Just love on her lots. I had to put one on Charcoal when he was nuetered because he kept trying to clean the stitches and stuff. He was so mad. But they do get past it and I am sure she will go on to be a sweet loving baby in the future.

Welcome to TCS

Don't worry - she doesn't hate you. My 2 girls were spayed on Friday and one of them managed to pull out a stitch before she had even left the surgery!

The cone is just making her feel restricted which is why she is walking like she doesn't like you. Don't forget, the cone is restricting her whiskers and your baby uses her whiskers to judge distances and to stop herself from walking into things. The tiredness is also normal - she's still recovering from the op and with the cone restricting her movements, she is going to sleep more because it is easier to sleep than play. You'll see, once the cone comes off, she will be back to her old self again

Just keep an eye on the scab and give her lots of cuddles. The incision will have closed by now but keep the cone on her until the vet says it can come off - it's better to have it on for a few days to protect the incision than to take it off early and have the wound re-opened and then the healing time will be even longer. My girls will have had their cones on for 10 days come Sunday but when their stitches are removed, the cones came off and I can't wait!
