You are not going to believe what poor Emmet went through this weekend......Its graphic....Just as a warning before you read....

So it started Saturday.....Emmet threw up his breakfast...which is not uncommon...sometimes he eats entirely too fast..... However this time he threw up 3 times...once w/ all his food....but the second two times just stomach bile...

So I gave him a little cat-nip...which always sooths his stomach and watched him closely...

We next he goes into the box...and looks like he is really struggling to pee, but nothing comes out....Well now I am getting a little more worried because of his history with crystal blockages......but afterwards he seemed to return to normal...he ate w/out problem so I continued to keep a close eye on him........

Next day he eats but then jumps back on my bed where he is sluggish....even trying to get him up was hard.....However this being sunday the vet was closed and the nearest emergency hospital is 30 miles away...I needed to be sure it wasnt a little cold...or flu......but I vowed that if in a couple of hours he had not improved we were going no matter what.......

Well then Emmet gets out of the bed, and has a quite fetid fish smell coming from his back end....I start to think that his anal glands are clogged, and begain wondering if this could be causing these problems.......

Then begin in and out of the box, rolling around on his back waving his penis...and constant dragging of his butt...He also felt a little warmer than usual.......These are all the usual signs of a blockage for Emmet.....besides the fish smell....which was new.....

So we call our vets number anyway on the hopes that they have a closer emergency clinic listed........Thats when I find out about there paging service....So we immedietly page the vet......she calls back and says to meet her at the clinic in 10 minutes.....

So we grab and sickly Emmet....jump in the car and rush down........

When we get there she immedietly feels his bladder......."Hes not blocked there" she says "His bladder is small and soft"

Of course we were happy to hear that...we had totally expected that Emmet would have a catheter in him for the next 3 days.......But we wondered what was causing the same symptoms and this fishy smell......

Then she says..."Well there is a blockage...Just in a different whole".......She lifts up his tail and that fishy smell wacks us right in the nostrils...she points out this slight ooze coming out of his anus...

she shaves Emmets backside, puts on rubber gloves...lubes them up, she tells me to hold on tight to Emmet...and she thrusts he finger straight into his anus......He screeches like someone is killing him.....I am trying to comfort him....but he is looking into my eyes wondering why I am letting this "Mean lady" do this to him......

This goes on for about 3 minutes...in that time she pulls out 3 half dollar size chunks of stool....hard as rocks...along w/ quite a bit of blood and diarreah......

Poor Emmet the face he had could have killed ya....and the room stunk like you wouldnt believe...........

She took his temp and weighed him...then gave him a physical......His temp was a little high..103.2....he had lost a pound since his last visit....but other than that everything seemed ok......

So then we start trying to figure out what would have caused it......No new kittens, no new food, no new treats....John and I didnt go away for any period of time.......Us and the vet were completly baffled.......

Finally tho...she cleaned up Emmet, good as new...just a little bare....and sent us home..with some diper rash cream...as you can imagine it was super sore down there..She told us to bring him in the next morning if the problem continues.....and to also take his temp at home...If it was still high we were to pick up antibiotics for him.........

This was last night..........this morning I am happy to report that his temp is back to normal, and his bottom side isnt leaking anymore....He also has returned to his regular self.....Except this real bitter look in his eyes....

My poor baby....It was horrifying.....and there is no indication as to why it happened......Just hope my baby forgives me....before the hair grows back....

And that my friends was Emmet terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day....

Poor Emmet!!!

I know how you feel though!! I had to give Portia enema's when she was a baby, and you'd think I was killing her with the screetchs she let loose with!

I'm glad he's feeling better today! I hope his bottom is feeling better too!

Yes, Portia had quite a rough time of it when she was a little baby! She had to have 3 enemas all up!! And it was horrible everytime!!

Thats good - He must feel like he has no dignity!!

I suggest lots of cuddles and kisses! Provided he will accept them

Ohhh poor Emmet! That would make anyone screach. Hope you feel better!

They did this with one of my surrenders, Sophia. She hadn't used the box for two days before anyone noticed. Boy, I don't think they'll get her back to teh vet easily! Three days later, not only was she over her grudge, but she is sticking her backhalf in everyone face when they walk past her cage! If crochety Sophia got over it fine, I am sure Emmet will!

Mmm...so glad I decided to sit down at TCS while having an early dinner!
Poor Emmet baby, he deserves a much more sedate life. Gives him lots of extra cuddles and he'll forgive you in no time.
Hope this isn't a recurrent problem!
