Hi there.

I've got two cats, one male, one female, roughly the same age. She is about 3 months older than he is, and they're turning 3 this year. I realised a while ago that he sports some black stains on his nose, his lips and the inside of his left eye. She has absolutely nothing.

Now before I go to a vet and spend money I dont have, I thought I'd ask here. He seems to be in perfect health, he is as retarded as he ever was, I noticed no change at all in his behavior. They both went through a great stress back in September though (my apartment building went down in flames, so you can imagine), could it have caused the stains? I also noticed that sometimes they go away, but I've been observing him closely for a week and they're sticking there.

Any clues? Any help/advice would be much welcomed. Thanks in advance!!

I could be totally off base, but I had a cat who developed a black spot on her nose as she grew older.. and it turned out to just be normal pigmentation.

I don't know how common that is or anything, but I do know that when she was a kitten it wasn't there.

Hmm... could be. His flesh is a nice pink, whereas hers is brown/black. She's got the most gorgeous of noses lol

Is the cat a red tabby? Red tabbies develope black colors spots on their lips, nose, and eyelids as the get older. Its nothing to worry about just doesnt look nice.

Oliver's got a little black speckle on his otherwise purrfectly pink nose and he's 4.... for the longest time, I'd always think it was a speck of dirt and try to wipe it off, haha... the vet's seen it and never said anything about it, so I figured it was nothing to worry about... it hasnt changed size or shape or anything either

Good call. I never thought about it until now, but you're right. Az, my red tabby, has one on his lip that I always tried to wipe off thinking it was dirt too!

Don't remember if he had it as a kitten, but he's had it for at least the past few years that I remember and hes 7yrs.

Luckily he's still got those cutie freckles on his nose and hasn't developed spots there. The freckles are my favorite part
