We just lost our cat, Nosmo, a couple of days ago. He was very special and he was the favorite, we have 2 more. One of them is young, we've had her for 2 months and her and Nosmo bonded like we've never seen. We don't know if we should 'run' out to find another friend for her or not. What do you think?

When I unexpectly lost Sheba I was devastated. I knew whenever I got another cat that cat could never replace her. I did get another cat (a kitten)from a rescue organization about 6 weeks later. There was a kitten that looked like her when she was little but then I would always be comparing the new one to Sheba. So I went completely different. Give it a bit of time-you know when you will be ready for another.

Thanks for responding - it's not us that we are worried about, although we are torn up by this loss, it's the kitten - does she need another buddy to cuddle with right now or in a few weeks... months?

When I lost my beloved Siamese, Daisy our rescue cat got really depressed and the vet suggested we got a kitten. So we got Tolly and she HATED him and he was lonely so we got Chloe. They get on really well, Daisy will play with them occasionally and spends a lot of time just watching them.

Now I just need an excuse to get another one to round up the numbers

If you get a new cat right away, there's no guarentee your other cat will be happy about a stanger. Whenever you decide to do it, expect an ajustment period for the two cats to get use to each other. I would definetly get a new cat at some point, since your other cat is use to company.

Our oldest, Nala, is like Daisy, she'll play sometimes but she is mostly a loner. How long did you wait before you got a new one?

Hi,
We only waited about a month because Daisy was really down and starting to stop eating the vet said she could give her drugs (can't remember what she suggested) or to get a kitten. We kept them seperate for a while, did the introductions slowly and although she didn't like him he did renew her interest in life.

Everyone is different. Some people can't even imagine getting a new kitty right away...or want to wait until a stray comes along. Maybe you could start going to Petsmart or Petco on the weekends, and look at the rescue kitties. Then they are kitties who are living in foster homes, so they can tell you about the kitty.

I recently adopted out Jasmine's sister Blue. They were worried that she would pester their older, crochety cat. Or wouldn't get along with their friendly young male. I was able to reassure them based on how she got along with the cats at my house. Now Blue is the beloved princess, who leaves the crochety cat alone, plays with the friendly cat, and lays on her new Daddy's chest in the evening.

I hope you find another kitty to fill the space in your home. Condolences on losing your Nosmo.

There is no standard "right time". In your heart you will know when you are ready for a new furkid, if it doesn't feel right...it isn't time yet.

I am sorry about your loss

This made me laugh; our oldest cat Ace is sort of like that. All the other cats irritate the poo out of him (especially when they try to love on him), but he starts crying if he can't find any of them. Silly old grump.

That's exactly like Lucky (she is such a drama queen). She was furious with me when i brought home Rambo, but when he went in to be neutered she was beside herself, staring out the window and crying, searching everywhere in the house, refusing to eat, and wouldn't leave my side. And he was only gone for 24 hours. When he got back, she sniffed him, licked him, and then smacked him on the head
(like how dare you leave) and then ran away and ignored him! Go figure!

Sorry for the slight hijack, you kitten will let you know if it needs a new friend right away or if you have some time. I agree that going to a rescue or a shelter to find the right cat to fit into your home is the best bet! Sorry to hear about the loss of your baby.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I do know in my heart that I will know when it's time or when I see the right new kitty. We got the baby at Petsmart and are very happy with her. They seem to be doing ok without Nosmo, better than expected. Still eating normally and starting to play more. I'm even crying less!!

Kitties what would we do without them in this world?!!
