I love love love my Booda Domes...I have one clean step and one regular one and then one regular hooded pan. The cats use the Boodas way more than they use the other one! I find them easy to clean and I like the fact that the clean step one doesn't track. I have a 15 pounder and a 13 pounder, so we also need larger boxes and these do the trick.

I've heard of some cats being more particular so, knowing your cats' personalities would be part of your decision. I also agree with the above poster to get a Booda, introduce your cats to it while leaving the other box where it is and see what happens.

Hope that helps a bit.

How do those of you with the Booda Box with the stairs clean the litter on the steps? I triec kind of tilting the box and shaking the litter out, but then the litter in the box slides over and some of it comes out as well.

I also tried a small dust pan and put the pan right under the Booda opening and some litter still got underneath. Besides vacuuming it (and I hate dragging my huge vacuum out each day lol) any other ideas?

While I was writing this something occured to me - I have or at least *had* a tiny vacuum thing to clean my keyboard...if I still have it I'll try that and report back. In the meantime, still looking for ideas.

Thanks so much!!

We have been lucky in that I just filled the Booda and put it in the same place the other litter box had been and they both started using it immediately. In fact, Mika hardly has any dirties in her box anymore so I'm assuming they both prefer it.

I have a light upright vacuum (Panasonic) just for my one rug (rest are hardwood floors) which you can pull the hose out to quickly pick up anything without using the beater bar. I use that to vacuum the litter off the stairs. I only do this once a week when I'm doing the rest of the vacuuming.

The little keyboard vacuum might work too.

Okay, I got the booda dome a few months ago- mine is white w/steps
I don't think I'll buy the model with the steps again- here is why!

I find it difficult to dump the litter out when I'm cleaning it out w/out getting it everywhere, esp the litter that gets on the steps.

The other reason is b/c I clean my boxes in the bathtub, usually by soaking them in hot water with just a bit of bleach. This box does not fit in my tub! I usually have to soak it at an angle, and rinsing is a bit difficult.

I do like the box, the cats manage to get the least amount of litter OUT of it, it pretty cool looking, smell isn't too bad, and it is easy to clean (when scooping).

The box is just not for me, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying the model w/out steps. I do like the purple they have right now!

I find them harder to wash too. But I love them so much I put up with it. The boys still manage to track some litter, despite the steps, and Maxine the dog can fit her head in and get at the goods. And, they're big enough that Seamus can dig to his hearts content.

One of the main reasons I had for wanting the Booda was to keep the dog out of the litter box. Erinand Seamus, did you mean the dog can or cannot fit her head in and get the goods? I'm assuming you meant she can't but not sure.
Thanks for the idea about keeping the old litter box out for awhile in addition to the Booda, that way I'd probably be a lot safer just in case Neely doesn't like the Booda.

I've used the Booda Dome Clean Step (aka "The one with steps"
) around three different dogs - one a purebred hyperactive dalmatian @70lbs, one a hyperactive lab/greyhound mix @ 55lb and one a not hyperactive, but extremely nosey and gets into everything anyway newfoundland/lab mix @ 80lbs.

The great thing about this is, it stopped all three of my dogs from getting into the litter. Even if they can fit their heads in (as the dalmatian and lab/greyhound could because they had skinnier heads), they still couldn't reach the litter. The steps go up at a diagonal which puts the litter in a spot that even their long skinny heads couldnt reach. And after a few days of attempts, the dogs gave up and never even tried again. And with the Newfie, his head is so big he couldn't get it in there no matter how hard he tried. And believe me, he tried!

I don't think I could use any other litter box around these nosey mutts. If I did, I have a house full of dogs with litter breath!

Oh and just because it was mentioned before - I had 6 cats using this litter box.. and they all switched over fine from their old one. I just left the old one and the new one out at the same time and it turned out, they actually preferred the Booda.

Maxine can reach the litter and get a choice morsel out. She's small though. She's a shiba inu and only 16lbs.

Well, I did it, I bought the Booda and put it in the same room with Neely's old litter box. She was more interested in trying to climb on top!
I'll keep you posted as to whether or not she makes the switch.

What makes the regular domes unique? I understand the draw for the ones with steps, but the other ones just seem to look like rounded covered litterpans. are they special too?

When I measured the area where the Booda Dome would have to go there was no way it could fit so I compromised and got the Booda Loo. So far so good, Neely has used it and Sean, our dog, hasn't!

I sure wish this product would have been available during the time I owned a Samoyed and Doberman. The dogs litter-covered noses was ~not~ a good look for them.

I thought I was up on dog breeds but I'd never heard of the Shiba Inu. Researched on the web and my first thought was that it looked like an Akita. Read more of the information on it. Awesome dog!

Thank you for introducing me to a new breed. (And one I may investigate in the future!)

I'm dying to get one or two of these. I don't have to worry about Jake, my dog, digging for poop because fortunately he's not that kind of dog. But unfortunately, he LOVES to bury the occational bone or treat he gets indoors and a few times he's buried a soggy chewstick or frozen meaty bone. Apparantly as soon as the kitty litter touches the soggyness, it's hard to clean off. For one thing, it becomes slimey (the litter) when I run water on it. But Jake loves that bone so I put up with it, lol

QUESTION: I have left the old litter box out as people suggested but now Neely is using both the old litter box and the Booda - When should I take the old litter box away? How will I know when to do this? Help Please!

Well, rule of thumb is one litter box per cat, plus one. Of course you can make adjustments depending on how often you scoop. I follow this formula and scoop every other day, although it certainly can be done more often. If you have one booda dome and two cats, you are gonna have to scoop a pretty dirty box every day. It sounds like it is safe at this point to take it away, but it sounds like one of your cats may like to use one for poo and one for pee, although you didn't say.. I would personally keep two boxes of any style for that reason.

zak&rocky, you must be a mind reader! I only have one cat now but that's exactly what I think she's doing - using one for pee and one for poop. There really isn't a lot of room for 2 boxes so I was hoping to take the old one away once she used the Booda but I don't want any unpleasant accidents either. Guess I'll have to play it by ear for awhile longer.
Thanks so much for your advice.

To second everyone else's enthusiastic response, I too am a big fan of the Booda Dome Fresh Step. My two bengals aren't particular about their litter boxes--as long as they can smell the litter and the box is CLEAN, they'll use the box...or pail...or bowl...or whatever the litter is in. Otherwise both cats will make their displeasure with a dirty litterbox known by going outside the box.

I had a clear domed litter box before that both cats used with no problems, but the mess they left outside the box was another story all together. (Sometimes the litter box room looked like an art installation in progress--as though my "in-house artist" cats were trying to recreate the shifting sands of the Sahara desert out of litter on the floor or something!).

The minute I put the new Booda Box on the floor, both bengal boys were exploring it like a new playground--sitting on top of it, trying to sit in the litter box at the same time. They took to it instantly and, ahem, "broke it in" within five minutes.

Now they use both boxes equally, but I'm hoping to buy another Booda Dome in the future so that I can stop coming home to litter "art displays" on my floor everyday.
The fresh step really does do a pretty good job of containing the litter mess. Yay for the Booda dome!

Here are pics of Frankie and Rishi when they discovered the Booda Box (the last one is both Frankie (white tail) and Rishi (brown) in there at the same time!):

Sorry to bump this, but I just bought a Booda Dome and I had to sing its praises!!

Kitties love it. Right now its in the livingroom and usually by this point there would be litter EVERYWHERE. But.... there's not! My little diggers have been thwarted!
