Hi all,

My cat broke off a claw around a week ago, and she had bled a bit (naturally) but since then it is hard to tell if it is pussing. It has a sort of bad odor from the claw area, I am not sure if it is because it hurts her to clean it, or if it is getting infected. I took her to the vet last week and she said that we need to watch it for puss. I am not sure if the smell is a giveaway that it is getting infected. She is short tempered and I can't get into her pigs without getting scratched and bitten to hell.

She is shivering a tiny bit when she lays on her back, not sure if that means anything, other than that she is acting normal.

Any ideas would be helpful, the vet is out until Wednesday of next week.

A nasty odor doesn't sound good, nor do the chills. Another visit to the vet certainly wouldn't be amiss. Jamie ripped out a claw a few years ago, and he was given an antibiotic salve to prevent an infection.

I would say if theres a smell then she does have a infection. The chills are a sign of a fever which she would develope with a infection. I'd get her back to the vets.
