Hello All.
I have posted on TCS before and am back again

I have a cat that I simply adore named Scout. He is my little guy and adore him to pieces. When I first took him in as a baby (he was a stray) from the owners who had been temporarily watching him he was well... ONE CRAZY KITTEN!!!!!!!!! He did what all kittens do, clawed, jumped, cratched, and ran all over the apartment... It didn't help that the people who watched him before I adopted him used their hands to play with him... I ended up getting lots of interactive toys to play with him over the next several months.
Now at 1 year & 4 months Scout has calmed down a lot. We don't use his toys the way we used to, and he mainly sleeps, lounges, uses his vertical scratching post and snuggles with me in the morning

However during the day/evening when I try to pet him he'll lunge and bite me and wrap his paws around my arms and sometimes scratches me... Is it just that he only liked to be pet/snuggled on his terms and his time? Could it be he just isn't a big snuggle-kitty? Is there anything I can try to do to change this habbit? I've tried to sternly say "no" but he doesn't listen to Meow-my
So here I am - looking for advice. Either way I love my little guy. He's cute, even when he randomly attacks

He is a gorgeous guy!

Try hissing at him when he bites you or blowing in his face. Momma cat would probably hiss at him so hopefully this will stop this behaviour.

Thanks for the feedback. Ive tried the hissing and he does stop but then usually jumps off the couch and / or goes away... I just want to make sure I'm not making him scared either... sigh
I would just prefer the laco of biting and jumping on me as though my hand is prey...

Oliver's 4 and still does this occasionally... and yeah, it hurts, haha - luckily I cap his front claws so that's a little relief, but he still loves bunny kicking too... when he's really bad and hissing and blowing isn't doing the trick I grab him by the scruff (I DEFINITELY make sure I'm like on my knees at this point and get my arm or leg or whatever he's wrapped around as close to the floor as possible) and get him on the floor so he cant turn and bunny kick me (I do have some veterinary work experience so I know I'm not choking/hurting him, even though he cries a little)... once he's down and I'm above him I use a very stern voice, telling him no, hissing more and making sure he understands that I am mama cat and he better watch himself because I feed and water him and clean his litter box, haha... basically, you gotta remind your little fur baby who's really in charge in the house (even though he'll still pretend he's king) without hurting him... this usually works with Oliver and often times afterwards he'll take a little time to himself - I give him that time (almost like, "go to your room and think about what you've done" lol) but I'm ALWAYS sure to go to him when he reappears and give him lovin and hugs and kisses and tell him that mommy doesnt like to have to yell at him and punish him and that I still love him....

he's beautiful, and what gorgeous coat pattern
otherwise, I have no tips for you, other than if he tries to bite, I'd immediately withdraw all attention.

My Jaz has a habit of wrapping her front and back paws around my arm if i rub her tummy.

As she is 12 I know when not to touch and when it is ok, however I have endured many scratches in the meantime

A more irritating habit is grabbing at the sheets when I am putting clean ones on the bed
I do blow in her face as suggested by Yossemite which does seem to have the desired effect.

I am getting good at dodging the flying claws and bunny kicking (good description that
)
