Wasn't sure where to put this, it's kind of 2 issues. Her cat's sudden vicious behavior, plus the putting her out as a stray but still taking care of her issue.

Gosh, I don't know what else to tell her. She's 12 and well the topic she made is the problem here. I so do not want this to happen and want to help but have no clue what to say....Or what to do about it.....It's so sad. She loves her cat to death, but, but, aaaaah I don't know how to help her. I knew I could come to TCS for advice for her.

Please help! Soon....

the cat needs to get to a vet to check for a medical condition if this is recent behaviour.

It would be better to try to re-home the cat than to have it as a stray.

That is exactly what I thought, but she was saying that they would not be able to get her to the vet even. I don't know what she should do about that. Should they try and have the vet come to her, or just bleed to death trying to get her into a carrier or what.....? I feel so helpless and I really don't want them to do that to their cat.

Thanks for the help. I will tell her about the re-homing thing. Don't know why I didn't think of that.

I don't want her cat to run away......

But warn her that no-one wants to adopt a cat with behavioural problems, especially an older cat so make sure the shelter is no kill

Wrap the cat in a towel and put her in a larger carrier if possibly, making sure that once the doors closed the cat can wiggle out of the towel. We used to just carry Mav to the vets in a baby blanket! (But then again she was tiny and no problem and we waited in the car until it was our turn. Dont reccomend this for an aggressive or fiesty cat!)

If her parents dont want to take care of the cat any more they could always ring shelters and see if anyone will pick her up in return for a donation? thye would be more keen to take her if the parents offered to sponsor the cats food/vet bills whilst at the shelter.

After Tommie bit me I was afraid to pick him up and put him in the carrier. I have one with only one door so I was told to stand it up and "drop" him in. I wore welding gloves however while doing this!!
I wonder too if this is a female who hasn't yet been spayed??

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. I will give her the tips for bringing her to the vet. I think the cat is only like a year old though. They haven't had her all that long and already they give up on her....

I just really wanna help before anything really bad happens. Like the cat runs away, or something like that. We've been discussing it over pm's.

I didn't get a chance to read all of her posts regarding Angie, but I saw a few stating they were originally going to TNR her. Her behaviour sounds semi feral so perhaps the family needs to start treating her as such. Can she borrow a live trap to take her to the vet to be checked out for health issues as well as her spay? I would at least encourage them to live trap her and get her spayed and then release her outside again if they feel that they can't do anything else.
Perhaps other members on here from Michigan can suggest some no-kill shelters, low/no cost clinics that may be in her area and you could pass them on to her?

The live trap thing sounds like a very good idea. I'll bring it up with her tomorrow when she is on. I'll try and look up some no-kill shelters in Michigan, and if anybody from Michigan could mention some I'd appreciate that.

I guess this isn't so urgent as I made it sound, it's just I was very upset and panicked when I found out about them wanting to have her as a stray!!

Sounds like the cat is already on outside cat. The kindest thing WOULD be to trap and spay. She may continue to tame up some over time. I have a fully feral (wild) boy at my farm who learned to come running when I call and rattle the food. Of course, he stays out of sight until he hears the pole barn door shut, but I have been known to stand in the barn and slam the door...LOL...then I get a good look at him.

A cat can live fairly safely outside once neutered. She can continue to feed the kitty, and keep trying to tame her. Maybe she has just been pushing the cat to tame too quickly.

I would encourage her that her realizing this cat wants to remain outside and wild is a good sign. She is accepting what the cat says are her limitations. Also, let her know that if she is not in an area where it is safe outside for cats, she could build a cat enclosure. Then the kitty has less freedom, but more safety.

P.S. If the kitty is feral, or wild, she should not be taken to a shelter. That is good for tame, adoptable cats, not cats that are terrified in a house. A wild kitty locked in a cage at a shelter will not be adopted. It would be kinder to let it live outside at their house!

You guys...you're so good. I was over-reacting because I know this girl pretty well, and was just worried. I still am, but well I am thinking more clearly now. I suppose I was so worried because she is just so sad about this, it seems to her like Angie (her cat) doesn't love her anymore, which cannot be true. I just want the best...for both of them...

I wish I could change the title of the thread (any mods, hm?), so it doesn't scare people so much. Thank you everybody for the suggestions. I think I'll give her a link to this thread.

Thanks again
