Some of her treats are quite big and she's had to cough them back up, so for this reason i break them in half before i give her them, because i always leave her a couple before i go to work and think what if she chokes when i've left the house
Exactly, that's what I mean. I give my kitties crunchy treats (for dental health) and tell them over and over to "chew, chew, chew". They might for one treat but it's forgotten by the time they get the next one.
I understand about supervising chew time, but that's not always realistic. Besides, they could still break off a piece of the chewie and swallow it and the owner would never know. The manufacturers have to know that, and knowing that should make their product digestible, or at least passable (I remember practically whole rawhide chews passing through our dog, Felicia. Those at least get pliable when wet...).
