Cat's hair thining in places

I'm a noob, hello all.

Here's the story... my best friend's girlfriend has a cat. It seems as if lately the hair is thinning a bit (not terribly noticable) in a couple places from the cat licking itself all the time. The girlfriend thinks it is because of neglect because of a few days a week that she spends out at nights and isnt home with the cat. I am trying to get info for my friend to see if cat owners might have seen this wierd behavior problem before.

Cats will lick or pull their hair out for many reasons. You will need the help of a vet to determine why this kitty is doing this.

I agree that many things can cause hair loss in a cat. Cats sometimes over-groom through stress.

How long have your friend and his girl been an item? If she has started spending nights out whereas she was always at home before this may be stressing the cat out.

I also agree that a check by the vet can do no harm.
