Pixel has a large lump around her stitches where she was spayed last week. It is new it wasnt there yesterday. My cousin had Pixels sister spayed and had the same thing. Is this a normal occurance? Monkey has no bump. I am going to call the Vet asap in the morning but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Its not painful at all I pushed gently on it and she paid no attention to me at all. Thanks for any input.

Sophie had one which i can only describe as a nodule but it was normal and went after a few weeks.

Your doing the right thing though by getting in touch with the vet just incase.

Is it hot to touch?, and is it golf ball size?, because there the signs to look for.

It is not hot to the touch and it is kind of oval shaped around the stitched area. My cousin who has Pixels sister Isis took her to the vet for hers and the vet said it was probably scar tissue. I will be calling them as soon as possible I just thought I would check to see if anyone else had similar situations with their spays. I touched it, poked it, prodded it, Pixel just layed there looking at me and purring so I can only assume its not causing her any pain.

I agree with Susan. It's most likely something harmless like a haematoma and will go down in a couple of weeks but it's good to check with the vet if you're worried.

Yep, it's probably normal. Lucy had what looked like a small grape-like bump where she was spayed and when we first saw it, we freaked because we hadn't seen it before. But after contacting our vet, they said it was normal and should go down in a few days, which it did.

Took her to the vet this afternoon, He said she broke her inner stitches and he needs to open her up and restitch them so she stayed at the vet. He is doing the procedure tomorrow

Poor Pixel. It seems she didnt break her stitches after all but was having an allergic reaction to them
The doctor replaced them with stainless steel which she will always have in her tummy and said shes just come out of the anathesia and is doing fine. I may be able to bring her home this afternoon. If not she will need to stay one more night.

Maggie had a similar reaction, but the vet left the stitches in & said that it would take about 6 months for the bump to go away. Well it was actually only about 48 hours after she had the external stitches removed before the bump went away.
