Weird behavior

I have a female cat who is not quite 3 years old.

I work at home, so I have a good deal of time for both cats.

In the last month, she's taken to sitting on the desk, right next to the laptop, and will start growling. She'll also claw at, or bite, my hand when I try to pet her during this time.

She's always been a tad wild, but this is just weird. I'll push my chair back and see if she wants to crawl in my lap or something, but nothing.

The ONLY time she behaves this way is when I'm working and she jumps up on the desk.

Is she jealous of the laptop?
Surely she can't be hungry for more attention as I play with them a lot?

Other than this, she is generally playful (although admittedly she plays rough), and in good health.

Just curious.

Yes, Little One is spayed -- has been since, oh, 7 or 8 months old.

Marx, the other cat, is also female, also spayed, and 7 years old. They get along pretty well.

Here you go. This is typical.

Little One just jumped up on the desk and started growling. I tried to pet her and she went at my hand and jumped off the desk hissing. She went to the couch where I followed her and started petting her no problem...she even licked my hand and purred.

Weird.

OK...hmmm.

When she growls, is it only if it's you and she in the room? Is the other cat there? Is she facing you or the monitor of the laptop? Have you gotten a new laptop or installed a new video or sound card? Remember they have much more acute senses than we do. Do you talk to the computer? Have you changed your cologne? Gotten a new watch?

LOL!!!

Sometimes the other cat is in the room. Not always.

She faces me. She sits on the desk next to the laptop and gives me a good stare down and a deep throat growl.

I've had this computer since August. No changes. I'm a writer, so I keep things fairly quiet. Usually, when I'm talking, I'm talking to the cats.

I work at home, so I usually don't wear cologne during the day -- nor a watch.

It's just very odd. She will come up while I'm working and rub up against my legs and that sort of thing, but when she gets up here, she's mad about something.

And it has started, oh, in the last 4 or 5 weeks or so...and I can't really come up with any changes in that time.

Oh well. I'll just keep moving my hand fast and if she acts sick, I'll take her to the vet.

Wow. She really sounds jealous of something. Does she like catnip? Maybe you could give her a toy when she jumps up there. Or...oh, even better, maybe some of that pheremone spray...Feliway? I think that's what it's called. It's supposed to calm down stressed cats. Also, I think honeysuckle toys do the same thing as catnip.
