One day as I was feeding Whiskey, he started eating and then I glanced over and he was standing there, trying to stay balanced, like he was dizzy or something. I've never seen him do that before. What would cause something like that??

Did it happen more than once? Or just now or what? Of course "dizziness" can be due to something fairly simple like an inner ear infection, or something worse like diabetes. Has he been to the vet recently? Probably not a bad idea for a check...

It happened just that once that I noticed. He does need to get his ears cleaned and no, he hasn't been to the vet in awhile. I'll do that soon.

It sounds like whatever is affecting his ears is causing balance problems for him. A vet visit is a good idea, then he can get the ear problem treated and he can be checked for anything else that may be going on. I'm sure his ears are bothering him and if they're making him wobbly, he may be dizzy as well, which is unpleasant in itself.
