Some of you know that I went to Florida for 5 days...and I need to tell you all what happened when I was gone.

This is a long story, but please read, Im still freaked out.

So, I had my "mother in law" come here and feed my cats for 5 days while I was away. Well, at least I thought she would. I found out she was here 2 of the 5 days. Which explains why everything went chaotic.
I got home, and opened the door, and it smelled like everything that I could never imagine ever wanting to smell like. It was horrid. It was absolutly horrid. I mean, the smell could have knocked someone out. It was that bad.

So, I look around, and I seen poop everywhere. Seriously. On the couch, on the floor, on the chairs, in bedrooms, smeared across the kitchen floor. Poop...all over. I knew it was the younger cat. So i went looking for him. I found him, and he was also COVERED in poop. (oh by the way...the mother in law, yea, needless to say, she's cleaning all this up. She heard it up and down from us.) So i looked at his rear end, and it looked as if his rectum was falling out. And he also looked horrible. His fur was all nappy, and his eyes were sad looking.

He was just disgusting. A humongous clump of poop was pulling on his butt, and it looked painful. I freaked out. I called the vet...they said "how fast can you get here" I said "20 minutes" She said...Ok hurry please.

So here I am going 81 miles an hour, not realizing I was going that fast, and almost hit another car. So I freaked out again, oh and the man and I had just gotten done with a huge fight. I mean throwing things, and all that, on Valentines day. This really stinks.

So I get to the vet, and they're like "ok, take him out of the carrier" and Im all like "are you sure you want to see this?" They're like "we've seen worse" So they take him out, and sweep him into some back room, where I cant see. About 10 minutes later, some vet guy comes in and is like "Ok, he's sleeping now, and because he's such a tiny cat, we dont want to have to ever give him anestesia again, so Were going to neuter him, for 45 dollars."

And Im all like..."ok, well listen, that's all great and everything, but WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH MY CAT (I'm totally stressing out at this point)" And he's like "well, he was obviously stressed out when you left on vacation, and somehow poop got caught on him, and made it stick to his fur, and it kept piling up, and his hurting his rectum" (not exzact words, Im just saying what I pretty much heard)
So then, Im like ok, so he's not dieing...now what? and he's like, were going to fix him...it'll take 5 minutes. And you can bring him home in 15 minutes. Which sounded wierd to me. Because I thought they spent the night.
But whatever, 45 bucks because you dont want to ever put him to sleep again, and fix him now, fine, Do it. So they did. And my ears were still all wierd from the plane, because I had just gotten home.
Then they brought me in the back room to see what they did, and he was sleeping still, but he's fixed, and they start explaining what they did. I am so confused. And then he started waking up..which was ALSO very wierd. Never seen that before.

Ok, so they sent me home with some Clavimax or something...but is it really OK for him to be home 10 minutes after being fixed? I just dont get this. He was still bleeding when I got him home. He's acting ok now. But his butt is all shaved, and it looks like those things they cut, are just hanging there. Seriously, is that ok? I mean this is just crazy..the day I've had is the second worst day I've ever had. And that's saying alot....

And my mother in law tried to lie about it, and say she was here all of the days. So, I did some investigating...I went to her house, and found 3 cans of MY cats food, that she does NOT use, because I know she doesnt use that, and I just bought them...and they were the only ones missing out of the cans I had for my cats. ugh, she is in so much trouble. I am so p'd off at her. So so so mad. My other cat was also so stressed out that, he pooped himself when we walked in the door. I really havent seen anything like this before. I mean, it was just intense. And that's how I know she wasnt here, because she would have smelled it, and cleaned it. I know this..so she obvisouly wasnt here for like 2 days. My poor babies. And..the last 3 days of mail was still in my mailbox, which she was supposed to take out.

Wow, this is long. But ok, sum it up...

Mushi (the younger cat), is OK..just was intensly stressed out from being alone..although the other cat was here too. I just dont get it...and WHY would he poop ALL OVER!!??
I thought FOR SURE something had to have been wrong with him. But I guess he was just stressed out. And now he's fixed, because he's a small cat, and had to have anestesia to get the poop off and fix his butt, and they just thought it would be a good idea to do it then. So now...They fixed him in like 5 minutes, and I brought him home 10 minutes after that...Is that ok??

My other cat pooped himself, but he seems ok too. The man and I are on the brink of losing each other because we almost hate each other, especially on valentines day. I am about 700 bucks in debt because I missed so much work while on vacation...

Ok, well that's about all I have to say today. I am so sorry, but I seriously needed to vent some today. Really.

But I had an AWESOME time on vacation.

I know...I feel sooooo bad for them. The one that got fixed is sleeping on the couch now, and the man and the other cat are sleeping in the room. I think I might sleep on the couch tonight. I'd feel better knowing my baby was with me. Because DH doesnt want him on the bed with his blood. But I just cant shut the door on him tonight...he's been through heck.

Poor poor baby. Well, let's see...neutering male cats is pretty easy on them. The main reason (I think I understand this) they keep them all day is because it's better if they are awake when they go home, mostly for your benefit so you can see they're ok.

Some vets leave the furry "pouches" the testicles were in, and some just take them off (so maybe that's what was "hanging off his back end?")

Did your cats have their normal food? Possible poopiness due to food change. Was their box cleaned? Some cats won't poop in a messy or smelly box. Or, possibly, they were upset with you. I'm inclined to think they were scared and upset and couldn't control themselves. I hope everything works out ok, and you aren't so stressed tomorrow!

Holy cow Leah! That's just awful!!! Poor kitties, and poor you!

I'm going to move this to Health & Nutrition as the experts there will be able to help you with your questions about the stress and the neutering.

Gee that has got to be the worst thing to come home too.... WOW. I don't even know what else to say but WOW. lol

Then the vet thing... that just is really weird. So they didn't use any anesthetics to neuter him?!?!? Or did I misunderstand that? Usually they keep the cats there for observation to make sure the bleeding has stopped and the cat is doing okay.

They did use anesthetics to neuter him, but they initially used them to put him down so they could get all of the stuff off of his back end. And then they told me because he's so small, they dont want to risk giving him anesthetics again in his life..so neutering now would be a good idea, and much cheaper.

This was my understanding when I read your first post and I think it was probably a great idea not to have to anaesthesize him twice if they could do both at once.

Male neutering isn't nearly as invasive as female spaying so I can easily see why they let him come home with you. When they did Bijou, they didn't use stitches, glue or anything - just pulled the skin together and let him heal naturally.

I did sleep on the couch last night so that Mushi, the one who had all the problems, wasnt alone. He was so happy about that. He slept right on my shoulder all night, just happy as a peach.

I think that all this stuff that happened really was because he was stressed out. It's just so sad to know he's THAT attached to me, he's only like 6 months old...But I just thought after a while they become more independant, and would be ok for 5 days while I was gone.

But he just wasnt. The MIL that was supposed to be watching them, said that every time she came in here, he ran away under the couch and wouldnt come out. She said she hardly even seen him..that's why she didnt see all the crap hanging off of him.

I am a little better today. Although real-life hit me harder than I though. Bills, Bills, Bills, and no money. Im so lost. But I've settled down a tad, and only have about 4 more spots to clean from all the poop. Im shampooing all carpets tonight, and have all couch cushions outside drying now from being cleaned.
THanks so much for all your guys support.
Oh good news, We got a decently nice cat tree for free out of all this. They love it, I just cant decide where to put it.

Sort of. It's from her sister. Who says her cats didnt use it. But the MIL's sister knew about all this, and was all into defeding her sister saying that she was here all 5 days. Which I have proof she wasnt. But the cat tree is nice. And they love it.

Just wanted to say that the kitties and myself are doing 10 times better. The neutered one is fine..he's running around, eating, drinking..all that jazz. His butt is still irritated, but he's fine.
thank god.

My other kitty is doing alot better too. He was so hungry when we got home, but he's got all his belly back, and he's also doing great. I just hope nothing like this ever happens again.

I read this post a couple of days ago, but was still having problems replying to posts at that time.
My gosh, I was horrified at the condition of your home and cats when you returned from your trip!
I'm glad that everything is okay now, and you and the cats are recuperating!

It is always so scary when you go away - I hate it. But your story is horrific and I can only say thank God it turned out Ok for everyone. Don't worry about the money - you will sort that out somehow. ANd I am sure that DH will come round to it all soon. The great thing is that your kitties are OK now.
