Pru is nocturnal. Every night when we go to bed, we hear her in different parts of the house, "calling". It is not a meow, it sounds like a screech owl: high pitched and sort of a warbly screech, some short, some long. Blaine says she is practicing meowing, he doesn't believe she knows how.
At first we just heard it once in a while, usually after midnight. Now it starts as soon as we go to bed.
Is she looking for us and the other cats (who come to bed with us), or just checking out things in the house and commenting? Last night we heard the "screeching" come up the stairs, was in our room, and then went back down the stairs.
I think she is feeling braver since the noise starts right away now and she ventured up the stairs. We see her in the house more in the day hours also.
We are waking up several times a night with the noise, it's not making for a good nights rest for us.
Anyone else have this with a feral/stray?

Yep! JinJin does the exact same thing. I'm not sure what it means exactly, but I take it as a sign that she's getting more comfortable, and just "checking in". When she calls, I call back to her with a couple of words, then she stops to listen.

Nope, you don't get a lot of sleep, but I think it's really cute!

Tipsy does it and he isnt a stray or feral cat. He doesnt do it often, maybe only once a month. I have no idea what its about... lol sorry. I have never really wondered about it, but I guess thats cause it doesnt happen that often.
I thought it was when he could hear something outside and he was 'calling' to the noise (so to speak) as if to say "I am in here" but not necessarily in a good way. It would be interesting to see what he is doing when he does this next time.
hmmm interesting
