...at your funeral?

Sounds like a morbid question, but my Mum and brother both have already told us what they want to have played at their funeral.

It's something to think about. The right song can say so much and mean so much, evoke so many feelings and trigger so many memories.

Which song would you like people to remember you by, every time they heard it?

I would love Maxey to play `I Was Made To Love Her' by Stevie Wonder, because it's one of my favourite songs, it's a happy song, and it's how we feel about each other, even though the title is `her'.

Hmmm, that's something I haven't thought about. I don't know what it would be but I have kind of a warped sense of humor so it'd probably be something inapropriate!

Under the cats, mostly.
Hrmn... I never really thought about it - but probably something silly like Bryan Adams "I dont' wanna live forever!" KNowing my luck I'll finish up with someone playing something truly depressing though.... I want people to celebrate that I was alive in the first place... not that I died... that's gotta suck!

I love the song "Love's Devine" by Seal...were going to incorporate it into our wedding and I'm sure it will also be played at my funeral.

I am not going to have a real funeral since I am donating my body for research, but if there is any kind of service, the song would be When The Angels Sing by Social Distortion.

I can't think of some the the exact names but "Don't let the sun go down on me"-that song by Elton John. And "Paradise my the dashboard lights". "Tapestry" by Carole King, "last Dance" by Donna Summer and classical music by Vivaldi (the Four Seasons) or Corelli.

My mother died in 2004. Both of us are singers, and a few years before she died, I promised her that I would sing the "Pie Jesu" from Gabriel Faure's 'Requiem' mass at her funeral.

I did. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, yet emotionally uplifting. It was my last gift to her, and the culmination of the music she had taught me to love.

As for my own service -- I would like Gounod's "O Divine Redeemer" sung, preferably by Jessye Norman, but hey. LOL

When we planned my mother's memorial service, my father, sister and I all came up with the same two hymns - a setting of the 23rd Psalm (The Lord's my Shepherd"), and the favourite hymn of everyone in our family "The Church's One Foundation". I also asked a friend of mine, who is a professional musician, to play the second movement of the Mozart Clarinet concerto.

Obviously, my choice would be hymns and classical music.

Like my mother, I am opting for no funeral/memorial.
Just a wake, everyone can get together and party, and share stories, get drunk, and dance.
All of the things I enjoyed doing.

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
I'd probably want something by John Denver played. I grew up listening to him and still listen to this day. I listen to all kinds of other music as well Of course, I have him (along with other artists: Black Eyed Peas, Weezer, Icehouse...) playing on my iPod right now... i have it hooked up to my stereo. One of his songs just finished up. Now, as to which song...

Fly Away, Grandma's Feather Bed, Looking For Space, Leaving On A Jet Plane (he wrote it and recorded it, but Peter, Paul & Mary made it really famous...)

His music is timeless... besides... I have no intention of going until I'm on old lady. I'll go down fighting...

Either that or Sinatra's My Way (yeah, baby)

Vibiana, that is beautiful. Sounds so much like my mom and me; my happiest memories are of attending church choir practice with her when I was tiny, and duetting with her for Christmas at our church.

If only I had the range for Faure's Pie Jesu (I'm more of a contralto) I would have tried to sing it for my mother's funeral last summer. She did not ask me to sing, probably because she knew how difficult it would be for me, but I wish now that I had done it anyway.

My sorta fantasy song that of course no one would ever play is Cradle of Filth "Her Ghost in the Fog"..

and in my head I would like something very dramatic and painful, but I think that in reality I would want those there to become lighter and less pained by the music..

Dragula by Rob Zombie... if I was a girl, I'd use Living Dead Girl. That would be sweet.

so far, i've sung at my grandfather's funeral, & my grandmother's [other side] & at a friend's...i think i'd find it very difficult to sing at one of my parents' funeral
my grandfather's was difficult, because he went suddenly. my grandmother's was much easier, because she had alzheimer's & basically her mind had left like 5 years earlier - so i knew she was happier.
oh, & i thought of another -

I've probably sung at a couple of dozen weddings and funerals. The hardest funerals are for people you know -- but your singing can actually benefit from the emotion (as long as you don't let yourself break down).

Also, it's not always the ones you know. More than 20 years ago, I sang at the funeral of a 20-year-old college football player who'd died of meningitis. Seeing this young man's family so griefstricken really laid me out.

Probably a salsa or merengue song (i know its not sad) but the music that has the rhythm through my body.

I have thought about this topic over and over again, If i die after my parents and am not married with children i wont have a funeral.
