Sissy's kittens are now almost 6 months old. One of the females, the tiniest one, is now talking. She doesn't normally vocalize. We think it may be her first heat but her sister is not doing this at all. Her brother is showing no interest whatsoever in her except to play. Could this be her first heat? We are going to get the boy neutered as soon as funds are available.

Ya it very well could be, it differs on all cats as to when they start. But starting immediately, I would completely seperate the males and females until they are fixed. It is definately near the time that they can start getting pregnant and they will. Females do not need to be in heat to get pregnant either.

Sounds like heat to me! And it is not at all fun. As for fixing them after funds are available, I'm not meaning to be rude but consider this. Kittens are way more energy and money than the operation would be. Also since they are siblings the worse thing to happen is for them to make together. My Mama cat is inbred and as a result has a severe heart murmur that will most likely take her life early. As for who to fix first, is he the only male? Female cats are insanely annoying when in heat. Luckily the first couple aren't as full blown. Male cats on the other hand spray if they're not neutered. So good luck and hope everything works out!

I know all that. I plan on getting the male neutered next month, The parents are siblings and are now fixed. The male is not mature enough yet luckily. He is totally uninterested in her. I just didn't remember Sissy going into heat this early. I need to get my tax return before I can take Scamper in.

I wouldn't risk her becoming pregnant from her sibling. If you do not have the funds right now....I would keep the male seperated from his siblings until he has been neutered and they have been spayed. That is the only way to ensure that no mating occurs. He may not be interested today...but tomorrow could be a completely different issue.
