I was playing with Poptart last night, with a string.. well... he got too aggressive when he was playing, so I went to grab the string to put it away for the night when he pounced on my hand. I haven't clipped his claws for awhile so they dug right in, and got stuck in the skin, I had to pull them out.
Anyhow.. my hand looked okay this morning, but now tonight, the middle finger is swollen and quite sore to touch.
When it happened all I did was wash it with hot water and soap. What shoud I do now to make any infection go away? I have painkillers which are also anti-inflammitories, which I should be taking, but haven't lately because they make my stomach upset, would those help the swelling go down, maybe?

Thanks!

EDIT : I need to learn to spell. Lol. Naw. hard to type with swollen fingers. Yup.. thats my excuse.

Neosporin or other anti-bacterial ointment. You could also put alcohol on it or hydrogren peroxide.

Keep a very, very close eye on it as cat scratches and bites can turn into a VERY serious infection in a short time. Cat Scratch Fever isn't just a song by Ted Nugent.
If it gets any worse, be ready to head to the ER or Urgent Care Clinic.

Yeah... Last year about this time I went to the ER. I was attacked by a cat at the rescue I volunteered at.. nasty bite that was. Got nerve damage in the right ring finger, ugly scar along the finger too.

I want to try everything before having to get checked out, as I don't want to have Poptart quarantined.

Same thing happened to me last night. I was playing with Harley and he got a little rough and he scratched my hand - 3 different spots, I bled pretty good for awhile, they still are sore and red today
- thanks for starting this post!

Movin' on up!
Betadine is better for cleaning a wound. You can get the generic povidone iodine in any drugstore.

My doctors always recommend triple antibiotic ointment, over Neosporine.
